Description

For more than a generation, Rabbi Michael L. Munk, as a sidelight to his busy schedule of educational and communal work, has fascinated audiences with his learned and provocative lectures on the Hebrew alphabet. In the process of opening eyes and raising eyebrows, he has convinced countless people that his contention is true: the Hebrew alphabet abounds in scholarly and mystical meaning. He has developed and proven a profound thesis. The alphabet -- if correctly understood -- is a primer for life. Ethical conduct, religious guidance, philosophical insights, all are nestled in the curls, crowns, and combinations of the Hebrew letters. Interesting book on the background of the Hebrew AlephBet. Kabbalah concepts are discussed as well as the connection between the letters of the AlephBet.

The Wisdom in the Hebrew Alphabet is a thoroughly erudite elaboration on one of the central themes of the Sefer Yetsirah: God created the Universe by means of the sounds and letters of the Hebrew Aleph-Beit. This book is full of stories, anecdotes, pieces of wisdom and insight derived from

rabbinical scholars as well as source materials from Torah, Talmudic and kabbalistic texts. Each letter receives full attention and Rabbi Munk does not refrain from providing the reader with insights into the interaction of letters with one another. Steeped in Judaica, this book is an absolute gem. Being conversant with Hebrew helps, as most of the original text fragments are not transliterated.

This is a wonderful book on the symbolism and mystical meanings behind the Hebrew Aleph-Bet. If you are interested in this subject (which I am), it's a great book. If not... you might find it a little dry. Rabbi Munk devotes a chapter to each of the twenty-two letters in the alphabet. It might be

helpful if you're already somewhat familiar with Hebrew, but it is not necessary to understand the book.
