Description

9-week Discussion Guide for Peer Discipleship MentoringAn apprenticeship plan with the Scriptures and Church teaching to support it, questions in Way of a Disciple help discipleship partners consider together the implications for our own lives of what Jesus said and did. Cradle Catholics as well as those new to the Church need to be apprenticed into the basic practices and spirituality of life in Christ. (See "initiatory catechesis" in the General Directory for Catechesis). This is best done by someone already intentionally living discipleship; yet even the faithful need help to do it. Way of a Disciple provides a plan, content, and supporting appendices. Weekly topics include prayer; a rich sacramental life; encountering God in Scripture; salvation within community; obedience to Christ,; and evangelization. Appendices topics include: the sacrament of reconciliation; examination of conscience; and a list of Scripture and spiritual writing by saints and others for meditation and enrichment of our walk as disciples of Jesus. The relational mentoring approach forms believers as disciples through highly transferable skills: discussions of Scripture, personal witness, and joyful sharing of life in Christ. With some training, those mentored are quickly able to mentor another younger in their Christian walk. This makes Way of Disciple also a primer for equipping believers to apprentice another in "what is common to the Christian life" (General Directory of Catechesis). The Participant guide is identical to the Leader Guide minus the instructions for leaders. The Evangelical Catholic (EC) helps parishes, dioceses, and university and college campus ministries build vibrant, fruitful, self-sustaining local ministries.
