Description

How well do you know Jesus? I think about this often, and I always come to the same realization. I don't know Jesus anywhere near as well as I would like to know him. The desire is there, but life gets in the way. There are times when I seem to be making great progress, and other times when I wonder if I know him at all. But I always arrive back at the same inspiring and haunting idea: If there is one person that we should each get to know in a deeply personal way, it is Jesus - the carpenter from Nazareth, the itinerant preacher, the Son of God, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, the Lamb of God, the new Adam, the Messiah, the Alpha and the Omega, the Chosen One, the Light of the World, the God-Man who wants good things for us more than we want them for ourselves, the healer of our souls.… (more)

This187 page book has 40 chapters, each being 2 to 4 pages in length. it's an easy read. It's not an explanation of the Christian faith but a book that urges devotion to the Christian faith in order to transform ourselves, others and the whole world for the greater good. It's written by a Catholic

author but sticks to the Christian essentials. It's a handy book to hand out to people who are dormant in their faith. The premise is that Jesus Christ is the single most important truth.

Like many of Matthew Kelly's books this one is easy to read and is broken up chapters to make you think. Could be used as a daily devotional or a bible study. The end of chapter recap are nice to sum up what you have just read. he gives you a Point To Ponder, Verse To Live By, Question To Consider

and a Prayer. He gets you to think about Jesus in a new way.

I don't remember where I got this book--though I can tell you it was not something sent to me unsolicited (as I see other reviewers noting). I picked it out of my pile to read because I liked the idea of short essays that I could read each morning. I found I also liked that the author gave us a

question or idea to meditate on for the day. I would often try to commit it to memory to think about it throughout my workday.

There are 40 essays/entries so it should have taken me a little over a month, but I missed a few days here and there so it took me about 2 months to finish.

I wouldn't say there was anything profoundly new to me in the book, but sometimes I find it is good to go back to the basics and review them. Sometimes my thinking gets so caught up in the current issues or more complex issues that I don't focus on the basics of Christianity.
