In this contemporary realistic fiction selection, a young boy found a frog. His parents tell him that he cannot keep the frog in the house. The boy then tells his dog that the frog is his new roommate. The story ends with the boy describing his collection of things he has to keep outside.
This book
One activity would be for the children to predict if the child will get to keep the frog or not and draw a picture of their predictions. We would then discuss the predictions as a class and see if we are correct. Another activity could be to get a frog habitat and watch the frogs and see why they would be better off living outside and talk about it.

gives true meaning to what a child may feel if he would have to give up something he or she really wants. I think this book would be great for children so they can realize that other parents may not let other children keep everything they want either. The illustrations really captured the feelings of the family and help show all of the things that had to be kept outside. One activity would be for the children to predict if the child will get to keep the frog or not and draw a picture of their predictions.
