This is such a great read, one that once you start you want to race through it for answers, but another part of you wants to go slow and savor!

This is a time split, beginning with the Great War, and then jumping to WWII, all beginning in Ocracoke Island, NC! These generational stories include the
Show More
danger of being at War, there are U-Boats, and strangers on this remote island, but what a tale the author weaves to have you holding your breath, wanting to give some a shove for the evil they are doing, and wishing you could tell them the truth!

Be sure to read the authors notes, you will have insight as to how this novel evolved! I so glad it was brought to life, and as I said I didn't want it to end!

I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Bethany House, and was required to give a positive review.

Even though my favorite historical fiction era is the World War I--World War II timespan and I've read dozens of novels about both, there's still a lot to learn, especially about the military action that came exceptionally close to the eastern seaboard.
That action sets the stage for "Yesterday's
Show More
Tides," which neatly ties two family stories together--one from each war.
Because of the timeline jumps (1914 to 1942), it takes a bit to get your character moorings, but once those are tied down, the book becomes a beautifully written, unputdownable story.

From its split-time viewpoint of WWI and WWII, this story of the people of Ocracoke, NC, was a marvel. The wonderful characters, the beautiful prose ("Her smile started slow, small, just a seed, then a rosebud. It unfurled like petals in a warm spring sun, opening fully with beauty enough to knock
Show More
his breath from his lungs."), and how God works to bring everything together for the good of His children, made it a beautiful story. (She says it best when she says: "New life that might cover these scars but which couldn't obliterate them completely...part of the story they'd all tell. The yesterday whose tides would carve tomorrow.") As you root for the main characters, as you see the evils they are facing (from individuals and the world), as actions unfold that completely change your predictions of how you think it was going to go, you realize that the author knows how it will turn out. There is a plan and you have to keep reading, looking for a happily-ever-after.
This is only the second book I have read by Ms. White, but I have already put her next one on my TBR list. I love her writing style, but I especially love her heart for God.
I would like to thank #BHPFiction and LibraryThing.com for sending me this ARC. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Two women, two wars, two loves - lost and found

Very good. Took a little time to get into it, then I had to just finish it.

"Because she'd always known that 'safety' was an illusion. And 'steady' too often meant stagnant. Neither was what brought life, with all its abundant, chaotic beauty."

Absolutely stunning dual timeline historical fiction. Once again, Roseanna M White masterfully and beautifully combines history,
Show More
intrigue, romance, and faith to weave an unforgettable tale of secrets, loss, grief, strength, and love. The setting of Ocracoke Island is lovely and the plot that takes us from the Outer Banks to England to France is riveting.

Louisa and Rem from WWI stole my heart completely from the beginning. Their romance and steadfast love were delightful and heartbreaking at the same time. Evie and Sterling from WWII took their time to get to know each other and I truly enjoyed that journey. There were plenty of gasp-worthy surprises and plot twists to keep the book moving at a good pace. Revisiting Room 40 from The Codebreakers series was quite fun, as was cameo appearances by characters from the author's other books.

It's a must read for all historical fiction lovers. I received the book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.

Wow! This author is one of my favorites, and I thought this novel was one of her best! I loved the dual timeline and the way the two stories intersected and came together. There were even twists and turns that I did not see coming, which kept me engaged and reading long into the night on more than
Show More
one occasion. I loved the strong female leads and their courage. There were even a few cameos of characters from her other novels! The faith thread is solid and well integrated. The history was also well researched and fascinating. Honestly, there was nothing about this book that I did not like! This is definitely a novel that I will be rereading. I cannot recommend this book enough!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

If a book was to be judged by the intensity of emotion it aroused in its reader, this book would, and should, receive the highest of accolades. Sometimes I had to pause in my reading just to reduce the level of angst the story created. It was difficult to not give in to the temptation to turn to
Show More
the last couple of chapters to assure myself that everything worked out at the end and the characters got their well-deserved happily-ever-after. I would never steal from you the opportunity to feel all the feels that come with reading this book, so will say nothing further other than to give this book my highest recommendation. I am extremely grateful to have received a complimentary copy from Bethany House via NetGalley without obligation. All opinions expressed here are my own.

Yesterday's Tides is another fabulous read by Roseanna M White. It gives me an additional reason why she has become one of my go to authors. It was great going back in time to both World Wars at the beautiful North Carolina’s Ocracoke Island and meeting Evie, Sterling, Remington, and Louisa. I
Show More
believe their story is my favorite I had read by this author to date. I was fascinated from start to finish. I loved it.

Yesterday's Tides will be getting a very well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean historical fiction and time slip novels that gives an element of faith. As always, I am eagerly awaiting for new releases from Roseanna M White in the future.

I received a paperback copy of Yesterday's Tides from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

Yesterday's Tides is a dual time line story with the predominate story line during WWII and the background story line in WWI. Both take place in the Outer Banks on Ocracoke Island and the Ocracoke Inn in North Carolina. Both are stories of love, family and sacrifice.

1914 - An Englishman and his
Show More
cousin arrive at the Ocracoke Inn to spend the summer. Remington and his cousin are looking for adventure and he has no plans to fall in love with the inn-keepers daughter, Louisa.
At first, she avoids him and continues to do her work at the inn but then they begin to spend more time together and fall in love despite the difference in their social standing. His family plans that he'll take over the family estate but he decides to go against their wishes and marry the woman that he loves. Needless to say, his family is shocked that he married a common Southern woman and Louisa doesn't fit into the family at all. When World War I starts, he goes to England with plans for her to follow but with his mother working against their marriage, she ends up going home with just the memories of their time together.

1941 - Evie works at the family inn and life on the island is pretty much the same day after day until the German U-boats haunting their waters begin to wreak havoc. A man washes up on shore. He is badly burned and she takes him into her home to nurse him back to health and keeps his existence quiet from the rest of the people in town. When she finds out that he's really a secret agent tracking a German spy in the Outer Banks, she is intrigued and works with him to find the spy. The more time that Evie and Sterling spend together, the more they realize that they are keeping major secrets from each other. Will they be able to go beyond their pasts and find a future together?

This well written dual time line historical fiction novel looks at the effects of war on families, love and loss and race relations over the years. It was a well written and well researched Christian fiction novel and makes me want to read some of the earlier works of this author.

I've read and enjoyed many of this author's books and I now have a new favorite! Yesterday's Tides is a stunning historical fiction saga with dual timelines that cover the lives of several family members through both WWI and WWII. Author Roseanna M. White weaves mystery and romance in this book
Show More
that's primarily set along the North Carolina Outer Banks on Ocracoke Island, and her fans will recognize her dedication to in-depth research. This book showcases her amazing ability to combine true facts and fiction, and I especially loved that so many characters from her previous books are featured in this story!

I've come to expect characters with strong faith and moral values and White certainly didn't disappoint me! My heart was stolen by the intriguing human connections and the touching faith message, as these families deal with the ugliness of discrimination, deception, death, and war. This time-slip novel is truly a testament to the power of hope, faith, and love and a compelling reminder that our actions of yesterday may very well alter our tomorrows. I highly recommend Yesterday's Tides to all who enjoy historical Christian fiction!

I've always enjoyed books written by Roseanna M. White and I love dual-time stories. The book begins during World War II with Evie and Sterling searching for a German agent and then to World War I with Louise and Rem. I'm not sure which storyline I enjoyed most. I think what I enjoyed most is how
Show More
it all connected in the end - and some of the reveals surprised me (in a good way!).

I enjoyed the book and thought it was well-written, but it wasn't my favorite of hers. (Do you ever wonder if you're just not in the right mood for a book? That was my thought as I read this, so I may read it again one day.)

Yesterday’s Tides by Roseanna M. White is a stand-alone novel. Set in two time frames; it’s the stories of two very courageous resilient women! Louisa Adair’s story is set in 1914 during the first world war. She falls in love with an Englishman who is visiting her quaint little island inn
Show More
during the summer. In 1942, Evie Farrow falls in love with a man who washes up on her beach. The stories were a little hard to keep straight since people from both time periods were in both segments, but I really enjoyed getting to know LuLu and Evie. They were both strong, independent girls with lots of fortitude to face life’s hardships!

I received this book from the author for my honest review.

It’s been way too long since I last read a Roseanna M. White book. I’ve had one or two waiting to be read lately, but when I realized this was released recently, I decided I should prioritize reading it first. What a great story! I’m sad I put off reading it as long as I did—this was
Show More
everything I remember from her other books and more.

In this dual-timeline story, we follow two different women—one through part of World War I, and another through World War II. One central theme to both of their stories is the inn on Ocracoke Island that they both work at, and let me say . . . it sounds like a wonderful place to live. I’ve always loved the ocean, and the way the village, the inn, and the ocean around it was described felt very homey and relaxing (when there weren’t explosions out at sea or bad guys around, of course). The mystery element was suspenseful but not nail-biting; the way characters used their own special code was intriguing and fun (and reminded me of how my cousins and I used to write to each other in code); and overall, the whole setting, plot, and characters were delightful, entertaining, and very well developed.

I laughed, I groaned (one character, especially, made me mad), and I sighed with contentment when the book ended. I only wish there was more to read about these friends I’ve made!

One thing I loved, especially, was that characters from many of White’s other books had cameo appearances in this story. I loved seeing the “next step” for a lot of them beyond their stories. It definitely isn’t necessary to have read her earlier stories to enjoy this book, but for those of us who have been long-time readers, that makes for an extra fun bit.

Overall, this was a great story. If you enjoy history, a dash of romance, some mystery, and codebreaking, this would be a great book for you.

I was given a review copy of this book, and this is my honest opinion of it.

I just finished Yesterday’s Tides and I’m at a loss for words. It was an absolutely beautiful story of people, families, wars, faith, trust, heartbreak, and ultimately seeing how the Lord brings it all together. Not all is perfect, but all is well.

This is a split time novel, going from 1942
Show More
back to 1914, and the characters just were wonderful. I loved reading the stories and trying to make the connections between the people in the two separate timelines. Wow! Amazing! I was sad to see the book end. I wanted more, but the story was perfectly complete.

I can’t wait to read more by Roseanna M. White. This is Christian historical fiction with faith weaved in the story so perfectly. No bad language, no sex.

Just a wonderful book that I highly recommend.

Yesterday’s Tides by Roseanna M. White gave me all the emotions. I cried at a tragic moment. I felt the drama of a long-held secret. Trying to figure out the family connections simultaneously frustrated and intrigued me. I rooted for the couples to live happily ever after. I abhorred a character
Show More
who acted terribly. The racism of the time saddened me. I felt so invested in this story and these characters that I didn’t want the novel to end.

Beyond my emotionalism, I admired Roseanna M. White’s clever plotting and fantastic writing in Yesterday’s Tides. Both timelines held my attention and had soft romances that included tasteful attraction without lustfulness. The romantic relationships showcased couples who loved each other well despite racial barriers and wartime conflicts. The familial relationships demonstrated strong bonds between both blood and chosen family. In fact, relationships were so integral to the plot that I created a relationship/family tree to identify the connections between characters.

In Yesterday’s Tides, Roseanna M. White deftly integrated spiritual truths into the character development and themes of the novel. The main characters of each timeline faced challenging circumstances that resulted in significant character development, and none of the healing or growth came easily. Each character’s journey cultivated an organic, enduring faith. I loved the integration of different forms of prayer as a daily practice.

I read Yesterday’s Tides by Roseanna M. White with my church’s book club and the novel received lots of positivity. Most everyone loved the story but agreed that the family tree was complicated. Five stars!

Unlike the other books by White that I’ve read, this one alternates between two stories, about two different women living on Ocracoke Island, North Carolina, at different points in time -- Louisa Adair in 1914, and Evie Farrow in 1942.

The portrayal of island life was really interesting, and I
Show More
became increasingly captivated by the mystery surrounding the possible points of connection between Louisa and Evie.

Other parts of the story didn’t appeal to me as strongly, which may be why it took me over a month to finish the audiobook. Watching Louisa’s mother-in-law treat her badly, and anticipating the fallout of this, was stressful. And for much of the book I was indifferent to the plotline about a British officer (Sterling Bertrand) tracking down a German operative, perhaps because it took focus away from the things I was more interested in.

However in the end all the pieces come together satisfyingly.
