Description

Fiction. Literature. HTML:"An emotionally compelling story" (Library Journal) about the devastation secrets can unleash on a family and the power of grace to bring second chances, from the New York Times bestselling author of Redeeming Love and The Masterpiece Leota's garden was once a place of beauty, where flowers bloomed and hope thrived. It was her refuge from the deep wounds inflicted by a devastating war, her sanctuary where she knelt before a loving God and prayed for the children who couldn't understand her silent sacrifices. Now, eighty-four-year-old Leota Reinhardt is alone, her beloved garden in ruins. All her efforts to reconcile with her adult children have been fruitless, and she voices her despair to a loving Father, her only friend. Then God brings a wind of change through unlikely means: one, a college student with an agenda all his own who thinks he has all the answers; the other, a granddaughter Leota never hoped to know. But can the devastation wrought by keeping painful family secrets be repaired before she runs out of time? "Rivers is a master gardener . . . using poignant humor and bittersweet revelation to open hearts to reconciliation." Couldn't put this down. A story about broken lives and people and the effects of Christ's love on them. Very realisticly portrayed. There is no perfect happy ending here, but much hope. My favorite part of the story is the fact that it is about an old woman whose granddaughter comes to live with

her. There were many places that hit home deeply. Fortunately, when I came to live with my grandmother, there were no broken relationships or misunderstandings to deal with. It was just joy and the regular trials of blending two seperate households into one. This book, I think, gave me insight into my Grammie's heart a bit.

I love this author and have read all her work. But I was REALLY frustrated and disappointed with the ending of this book. She did not give it a realistic NOR a satisfying ending. I won't give away the ending because that would be rude to you reading this but though her other books get 5 stars, this

one does not!

I absolutely loved this book. I loved the daughter/mother and gandmother/granddaughter relationships and how they grew throughout the story! Sure the ending wasn't happily ever after, but it was the perfect ending for me. It brought closer to the story, but not the end of the story. She leaves itt

open for you to continue, which I love.

Leota's Granddaughter may be the link that brings the whole family back together. Love, life and God are all lessons learned about in Leota's loving garden.

Dysfunctional family at it's best, throw in a sociology student forced into interviewing an old person, four generations of secrets and misunderstandings, and a little romance. The bad part was the 18 year old Anne-Lynn was not really a very believable character, too mature and too saintly. Nora

was a little too bad to be real, but Leota was wonderful. Also, a little TOO Christian. I skimmed through a lot of the Bible quotes.
