Description

"The "master of heart-pounding suspense"--New York Times bestseller Phillip Margolin--returns with a new legal thriller starring Robin Lockwood. A young woman accuses a prominent local college athlete of rape. Convicted with the help of undisputable DNA evidence, the athlete swears his innocence and threatens both his lawyer and his accuser as he's sent to prison. Not long after, there's another rape and the DNA test shows that the same person committed both rapes--which is seemingly impossible since the man convicted of the first rape was in prison at the time of the second one. Now, the convicted athlete, joined by a new lawyer, is granted a new trial and bail. Shortly thereafter, his original lawyer disappears and his law partner is murdered. Robin Lockwood is a young lawyer with a prestigious small law firm and a former MMA fighter who helped pay for Yale Law School with her bouts. She is representing the victim of the first rape for her civil lawsuit against her rapist, who is now convinced the rapist is stalking her and trying to intimidate her. At the same time, another client is up on a murder charge--one that should be dismissed as self-defense--but the D.A. trying the case is determined to bring it to trial. Now she has to mastermind two impossible cases, trying to find the hidden truth that links the two of them. Phillip Margolin, the master of the legal thriller, returns in one of his twistiest, most compelling crime novels yet"--… (more)

I love Phillip Margolin. I know I have not read one or two of his books, but I certainly try to read them all.

This book was great. It is well-written and the characters are just like real people. They can be good people and still make a mistake or two. They can be mostly bad people and still have

a heart at some point. Add to that the legal questions that come up in this book, which are truly current, and it makes for a very interesting read for sure. There are several stories at once and they are all turn the page readable. If you are like me and attempt to figure everything out along the way, you will no longer rely on your ability to do so! Which is my way of saying, great book.

I have been missing legal thrillers for awhile now, and I am so glad that this author still writes them. I am always intrigues by his work. I'm hoping there are more books coming with Robin...…

This book was provided to me by NetGalley and I would like to thank them and the publisher.

How can a man commit rape when he is in jail at the time of the crime? This is just one of the many twists that attorney Robin Lockwood must deal with as she attempts to represent her clients to the best of her abilities. Things that should not be connected are and in ways one would not expect. It

was a quick and quite an entertaining read.

As usual for Margolin, this book is fast paced, covering a series of murders. There really isn't a dull page IN his books.

This is the second book in a legal thriller series featuring lawyer Robin Lockwood, but I did not read the previous book. It is fine as a standalone, however.

Robin is a young partner in a small firm in Portland, Oregon handling criminal matters. A young woman, Randi Stark, employs Robin as her

lawyer in a rape case, in which there is DNA evidence identifying the assailant as Blaine Hastings Jr. He is sent to jail rather quickly, but then a second rape occurs and the DNA matches that of the previous rape. Yet Blaine has been in prison.

A battle over evidence and clients ensues between the District Attorney and the various lawyers involved with the rapes. Meanwhile, there have been some recent murders that seem somehow connected.

As Robin closes in on the answers, her own life is in danger, and the tension builds for answers before more people die.

Evalution: I thought some of the “bad guys” were a little too evil, but what do I know? I lead a fairly sheltered life, whereas the author formerly worked as a lawyer specializing in criminal defense. At any rate, the premise is great and the story definitely keeps you turning the pages! There really isn’t much about legal procedure in this book; the emphases are on the mystery and thriller aspects.

A very lively court-room and legal mystery. The twists are very cleverly done and, apparently, based on sound legal principles. Some of the characterizations are better than others. The principal bad actor is concealed until very near the end. While all this is going on, a romance breaks out that

is nicely handled. A good read. Will pursue this author.

Two people with the same dna? The modern equivalent of the locked door mystery. Find out how Robin Lockwood gets out of this one. A typical Margolin thriller with plenty of unsavory suspects and a twist at the end.

A good read. Similar to the 1st book in the series.

A great follow-up to The Third Victim, the first book in the series. Again the characters are likable and you want them to be innocent and likable, but there’s always the bad one in the bunch. The DNA twist was differently done.
Again I did not guess the “who”until almost the end of the book.

I decided to give this one a second chance. I actually was really enjoying the beginning of this one. However; it started to follow too many characters and too many storylines. It was almost too much going on all at the same time. When listening on audio, it was hard to keep track of who was who.

I

wish it would have stayed to the initial trial and characters.

I actually read this almost exactly four years ago --- frustrating that I didn't remember it but also because my library's internet connections don't always work well enough so that I wind up picking out a book I've already read. YES, aren't there enough books in the library so that should never

happen??? Note to self: ALWAYS check when I get home again where LibaryThing WORKS!

However, why not reread something that was good the first time? Too bad about the ol' brain.
