The Phildelphia Inquirer compiled a collection of their most appreciated articles by John Grogan and had that published as this book. Interestingly, the copyright page of this book notes that all rights to this book go to the newspaper, not to the author. My feeling, after beginning this book, was
I almost did not finish this book. This book’s cover, which features a dog in a bathtub and refers to Marley and Me, is misleading because most of the newpaper articles are not about animals (or even dogs) at all. I really like John Grogan’s writing and have thoroughly enjoyed his books Marley and Me and A Long Way Home. However, I don’t think that this collection works well for a book. These pieces are too small and really do belong in a newpaper instead of a book. Unlike a book of essays which discusses various topics in depth, these pieces are so small that, by the time I’d read half of the book, I’d forgotten what I’d read in the beginning of the book. I forced myself to finish it, but, by the time I did so, I’d forgotten what the first half of the book was about.
My recommendation? Stick to John Grogan’s books or read his articles in the newspaper.

I was disappointed with this book, for some reason I assumed that the selected writings on various subjects would be animal based stories, given the title and cover of the book, not so!This is not a favourite at all for me, however I feel many would enjoy this type of book.

I purchased this book after reading Marley and Me. Some sections are down right blah! but others were very captivating and inspiring. The book is a compilation of articles that were posted in the Philadelphia Inquirer during his time with the paper. Easy read - enjoyable for the beach, long trips
