Description

"When Joe Pickett is asked to join the rescue efforts for the victim of a startling grizzly attack, he reluctantly leaves his district behind. One survivor of the grizzly's rampage tells a bizarre story, but just as Joe begins to suspect the attack is not what it seems, he is brought home by an emergency on his own turf. Someone has targeted a prominent local judge, shooting at him from a seemingly impossible distance. While the judge was not hit, his wife is severely wounded, and it is up to Joe to find answers -- and the shooter. The search for the would-be assassin becomes personal when Joe's best friend, Nate Romanowski -- just as he's adjusting to the arrival of his first child -- falls under suspicion for the crime. It's a race against the clock as Joe tries to clear Nate's name and identify the real shooter, all while deciphering the grizzly encounter. Beset by threats both man-made and natural, the two men must go to great lengths to keep their loved ones safe." --… (more)

A page turner - fast paced and action packed. Not much nuance but a good ride. Box’s character - the falconer Nate Romanowsi is one of my favorite of the genre.

"Long Range" is the 20th. installment of the Joe Pickett series. I've loved all these books and can't decide if this was the best so far. Lots of action and stories within stories. I was completely surprised to find out who the perpetrator was. The author kept me completely in the dark. It was an

Fast paced and action packed. Except for the part where the game warden becomes state patrol, it's a good read. Great story, great narration, Plot is engaging. Characters, especially the new Sheriff and the judge make the book exciting.

I gave up on this when character being stalked by drug cartel was introduced. I just am tired of every mystery revolving around drug cartels. Been through this earlier in the 80s when even a simple domestic homicide would turn out to be about drugs and in the 90s when every weird killing turned out

to be about abused or sexually abused children. And with fantasy when every story had an elf, a human, a magical animal and etc. on a quest to destroy or restore or discover the magic crown, sword, necklace-----

Another well written book by C J Box in the Joe Pickett series. This is a page turner with different plot twists and the usual I did not see that coming ending.

Reverberations from the Wolfpack invasion are still resounding in Saddlestring. Lots of bad guys locally and imported to challenge Joe and Nat. Prime among them is the new sheriff in town. Snipers abound and Joe gets shot again but the plot is brisk and the story stays interesting. Another win for
