Description

After uprooting her life in the States, Irene Steele has just settled in at the villa on St. John where her husband Russ had been living a double life. But a visit from the FBI shakes her foundations, and Irene once again learns just how little she knew about the man she loved. With help from their friends, Irene and her sons set up their lives while evidence mounts that the helicopter crash that killed Russ may not have been an accident. Meanwhile, the island watches this drama unfold -- including the driver of a Jeep with tinted windows who seems to be shadowing the Steele family. As a storm gathers strength in the Atlantic, surprises are in store for the Steeles: help from a mysterious source, and a new beginning in the paradise that has become their home. At last all will be revealed about the secrets and lies that brought Irene and her sons to St. John -- and the truth that transformed them all.… (more)

This is the final book in the Paradise trilogy and I have to say each one has been an enjoyable read. St. John is such a fabulous location and I felt like the author really captured the island lifestyle perfectly.

I liked all the characters and in this final book, each one seemed to be finding their

way and on the path to living their best lives. Some things were still a bit unsettled, but not so much I felt that the story was left hanging.

My biggest complaint with this final book was the FBI storyline. I was really looking forward to the investigative process and ended up being a bit disappointed with the fast and easy wrap-up. Also, what about Ted Croft? I wanted to “meet” him and at least have a glimpse at the man behind all of the trouble.

In spite of my complaints, I did enjoy the book and would recommend to readers. This is a perfect vacation read and a great way to wrap up my summer vacation.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Little Brown & Company for allowing me to read an advance copy and give my honest review.

OH NO! It's done, the winter reads Elin Hildebrand is so famous for are done... well, maybe she'll get bored during the pandemic and crank out a few more. Not disappointing at all how this series ended and I don't really have to say more, everyone who is reading this book has been hooked for a

couple years! If you see this review Elin, thanks again!!

Third in the series. An interesting wrap up. Secrets about the plane crash and Russ's involvement with shady businesses are explained. All the romantic relationships are tied up a little too neatly, but that's to be expected.

This is the Elin Hilderbrand I love. Troubles in Paradise is book 2 in the series and picked up right where the previous story left off, the morning after the FBI seized Irene's villa. From there we learn even more about the history of some of our favorite St. John's characters and we get to follow
Show More
them as they adjust to their new lives and changes in paradise. This book gives us a point of view from each of the characters which is nice as I really don't think I have any favorites - I enjoy them all. We even get a visit from some "Winter" Characters. This book fits perfectly within the series and will leave readers wanting more of our favorite paradise stories. It does feel like a complete ending, so I am not sure if is this is the last one, but I certainly hope not.

I've always enjoyed Elin Hilderbrand's books - they're good stories with a touch of humor - but this particular one fell a little flat. The impression I'm left with, having read all 3 of the books in this "Paradise" series recently, is that all of her books are really kind of the same - frothy

stories that always end with everybody happy and fulfilled. If that's what you want to read, then she's your author.

Troubles in Paradise is the third book in a three part series. Winter in Paradise is the first. What Happens in Paradise is the second. The series is set on St. John in the US Virgin Islands. They are light, beach books with some interesting relationships and situations. Many of the characters work

in the tourist industry, so there is a constant stream of discussions about the best bars or restaurants on the island. The main plot revolves around a family from Iowa that comes to St. John after their husband/father dies in a helicopter crash and they discover that he had a mistress and a second life he'd been hiding from them. The books are quick reads and lots of fun.

Of the trilogy, this was probably my least favorite of them. I was so excited to read the continuing story of the characters whom I'd fallen in love with, and was relieved to have had answers to everything the previous books had left open.

What I didn't like was how the end of the story felt thrown
Show More
together, rushed almost. I felt like it added more new questions almost, needing to know what happens after the new event at the end of the book.

I love Elin's writing style and I love how she can put so many characters togther with such detail and allow the reader to keep them separate.

The last book in the trilogy, a nice conclusion! Enjoyed listening far too late in the night.

The third novel in this series slid right in place easily and it was "fun" to see how Hilderbrand handled the different characters to reach an ending. She is a perfect writer for escape stories....easy to be absorbed by the revolving action with so many people to follow.

This second in the paradise winter series is essential as the link between the first and third books. But, I didn’t enjoy it very much.
