Content and Summary Info

Bisexual Content: Not impressive, but technically inclusive of bisexual and pansexual teens.

Intersecting Marginalized Identities: Addresses issues relevant to transgender teens.

Problematic Aspects: The first chapter defines bisexuals as "People who can be attracted to either sex..." It defines pansexuals as "A little different than bisexuals, pansexual people are attracted to not only boys and girls, but people who identify as transgender." Also includes this in the introductory paragraph on bisexuality: "Sometimes people identify as bisexual during a transitional stage before coming out as lesbian or gay." UGH.

Publisher's Summary: Queer is a humorous, engaging and honest guide that helps teens understand what being queer means, and how to come out to family and friends (and deal with repercussions). It provides suggestions for a healthy and vibrant LGBT social life (the “queer sphere”), while offering ways to deal with bigotry and homophobia. Queer also includes personal stories from the authors, fascinating sidebars on queer history and an abundance of health, community, safety, political, and reading resources.
