A bright, colorful and fun read. The rhyming text was fun and the parental discussion guidelines in the back seem extremely helpful.

This is a wonderful book about gay pride day, with a reading/discussion section at the end to help parents talk to their kids about GLBT folks. I like that it is bright, joyful, and shows a wide swath of the variety of people you'd actually see at a pride gathering.

A fun book about the excitement around a parade to celebrate diversity in all forms.

"This Day in June" depicts the events and proceedings of a LGBT pride parade. The book is a very quick read, with only a handful words on each page. The way it is written (rhyming, clear flow) I would consider it a poem. The purpose of this book is clearly to promote understanding and acceptance of

the LGBT community, but there isn't much substance to the writing. The message is in the illustrations, showing happy and celebrating members of the LGBT community. Even though I wouldn't mind this book in my classroom, I don't think it would be a good idea to have it in there due to the controversial nature of the subject.

Pitman and Litten’s bright and happy picture book for children about a gay pride parade is truly gay in both senses of the word. In addition to a sequence of scene along the parade route, psychology professor Pitman has provided a Reading Guide with annotations explaining the historical

significance of the scenes, and the people represented in them and a Note to Parents and Caregivers explaining why the book was written, and how to talk to children about them in a way that they can understand according to their age and developmental level.

diverse picture book (ages 3 , schoolage; LGBTQA community).
* Prominently features diverse characters: mostly in terms of LGBTQIA, but also ethnically diverse. The author is a professor of psych and women's studies, and "has worked extensively with the ... LGBT community."
* Works for preschool

storytime: I probably wouldn't read this at a toddler storytime, even though the text is short, because without the context I don't know that they would understand a whole lot, and they can't articulate questions the way a preschooler can, but the book includes background info and tips for introducing some of the topics to 3-5 year olds, as well as to 6-12 year olds and 13-18 year olds. It would totally work for a preschool storytime, but the presenter should be prepared to be able to answer the kids' questions afterwards.
* Book works well with the community theme: yes, though this theme is pretty loose to begin with.

This book introduces LGBTQ and the pride that takes part in it. I loved the illustrations and raw representation of this community. This is an incredible book that should be introduced to children at a young age because they are very aware of the world around them. We need to be able to feel

comfortable and discuss such topics. I am becoming more familiar with the community each and everyday. I really enjoyed this simple picture book that portrays a strong message.

Finally a fantastic picture book about the Pride parade! SO lovely, brightly colored, simple enough for even the youngest kids, but with intricate illustrations that engage the older ones. YES.
