Description

Isn't it wonderful when love strikes? When you encounter someone beautiful and interesting and suddenly: feelings. But what do you do when that first crush squashes you flat, when sparks fly but fizzle out, when you and your other half just don't click together?

This is such an adorable "instructional guide" to love and relationships that I found myself laughing out loud and cooing multiple times, to the point at which my coworker heard me, wanted to see, and laughed equally loudly. The humor is an effective combination of dry and over-the-top, using

cartoony illustrations to demonstrate serious topics. There was one panel early on that hit me like a ton of bricks: "Loving yourself means you will have more in common with those who love you." I don't think I've ever heard such a perfect way of explaining the whole "you have to love yourself before you can love anyone else" idea.

I don't know who will pick this up from the shelf, barring the people already familiar with the webcomic or the artist's other work. It's attractive, but without context, the cover implies a younger audience than the desired one, and I wonder whether teens will feel initially put off by that. A little selling would help, probably. I might "beta test" with a few teens to see what they think.
