A snow day! Froggy decides to play in the snow but has to get dressed first. Making several trips back inside for other articles of clothing wears Froggy out.

I think this is the first in London's "Froggy" series. The storyline is simple: Froggy wakes up, sees that it's snowing, wants to play in the snow, get dressed to go outside, goes outside, realizes he forgot to put on a particular item of clothing, goes back in, undresses, redresses, goes back
Show More
outside, repeat repeat repeat at least five times before he gets too tired from all that dressing and undressing and gives up and goes back to bed.

I can see why this is probably great fun in a storytime setting. There's the dressing sound-effects that London sprinkles throughout the text, the repetition of action, etc. I think kids probably identify with the idea that getting bundled up to go outside is an ordeal in and of itself. The illustrations are simple, brightly colored, and easy to make out even at a distance - not too detaily or cluttered. Really perfect for a preschool or toddler storytime.

That said, man, this is kind of a boring story! And I really can't believe that Froggy was so popular that he inspired a whole series... He's cute and all, but not THAT cute.

Book was a'ight. It was pretty boring and unexciting. It may be good for younger kids though.

Froggy wakes up and finds snow outside and wants to play in it, but when he gets out there he forgets to put some kind of clothing on. His mom asks him if he forgot anything and he has to keep coming inside to put more cloths on. This happens several times and he finally gives up and go's back to
Show More
bed. Good book for teaching obedience.

This story is about a frog who is suppose to sleep all winter but wakes up and sees that it snowed and wants to play outside. He puts on some clothes and heads out, but his mother told he he forgot his pants, so he wnent in and changed and tried again. Ever time he went outside he forgot
Show More
something.

This story is a very cute story!

I could use this in the classroom when talking about responsibility and making sure children know how to get dressed properly.

Froggy gets dressed is a very cute story about a little frog getting ready to go out in the snow. This would be a cute book to read during the winter season, when students are learning about seasons and how to dress for the weather. Froggy's mom was an interesting character who I think students
Show More
would relate to their own Moms. I would use this book for a kindergarten or a first grade classroom.

I would mostly use this book for fun read alouds, especially when it is getting colder outside. This book is about a young frog who wants to play in the snow but keeps forgetting the proper clothing. By the time he gets fully dressed he is too tired to go out and play so he goes back to sleep.

One morning Froggy wakes up and discovers snow--glorious snow! Of course he immediately wants to frolic outside, but his sleepy mother reminds him that frogs are supposed to sleep all winter. The dialogue betwen a young frog and his mother make this straightforward story a good choice for reading
Show More
aloud. Vibrant beautiful colors throughtout.

The froggy books have a lot of repetition and "sound effects" which makes them more enjoyable for children than for their parents.

London, Jonathan. Froggy Gets Dressed. New York: Viking,1992. This is cute book is about Froggy, the little frog who is learning how to get dressed for the winter. But each time he forgets something. His mother is faithful to call out to him in her special way. There is a lot of repetition and it
Show More
can be a little tiring for older kids. But young children will get into the pattern. This book can also be used to explain onomanopaeia with words like zat, zip, and zum. The text is simple for children to read. Age Group: 6-8 years.

Even though he should be sleeping for the winter, Froggy wants to play outside in the snow. Each time he dresses, he forgets an important article of clothing. Tired of trying to remember everything, he decides to go back to sleep. The text also cues for sound effects to make the story more lively.

Back Cover: Froggy pulls on his boots – Zup! Puts on his hat – zat! Ties on his scarf – Zwit! Tugs on his mitten – Zum! But what did Froggy forget?

Mine: My nephews know I love all books that have to do with frogs, so they bought me a set of several of the “Froggy” series for Christmas.
Frogs are suppose to sleep through winter (as should everyone else), but he didn’t want to there was snow out. As he dressed to go out he forgot something – his pants. He came in and got dressed all over again and then he forgot his shirt and coat. He once again comes in to try to get dressed – what no long johns? Once more time he comes back in – it’s just too much and he decides to go back to bed.
That’s the way I feel – why else live in California. The snow is always fun and pretty, but the layers of close that are needed are often too much.

The first of the popular series of picture-books from author Jonathan London and illustrator Frank Remkiewicz featuring this winsome ranine hero, Froggy Gets Dressed sees the eponymous Froggy waking up in the middle of the winter, when he should still be hibernating. Despite his mother's insistence
Show More
that he go back to bed, he decides to get dressed, and try out the snow outside his window. Unfortunately, he keeps forgetting various articles of clothing, in his haste...

Froggy's antics will keep children entertained, as he dresses and undresses, dresses and undresses, while the colorful artwork will keep their attention. I can see Froggy Gets Dressed working very well as a read-aloud selection at story-hour, or as a bedtime book in the winter. I don't know that I enjoyed it enough to hunt down any of the other books in the series, but I'm glad to discover what they're "all about," just the same.

Froggy Gets Dressed was written by Jonathan London and illustrated by Frank Remkiewicz. It tells a story about Froggy, a young frog, who is so excited for the snow outside, that he cannot get dressed correctly! He keeps getting called back into his house by his mother to put on the necessary
Show More
clothing for the weather. He finally gets everything on that he needs to, and is able to finally go play in the snow. I liked this book because this is something that happens in young children's actual lives- they get so excited for something that they sometimes forget other things they have to do first. One writing activity that this book can be used for is introduction to procedural writing. Froggy has to put all of his clothes on- in the correct order. Students can use this text to demonstrate and write a common procedure they do everyday.

What a fun story with a simple plot that really gets the reader engaged. One morning a frog wakes up from hibernation and realizes it has snowed. The frog decides to get dressed and head outdoors. But each time he gets outside, his mother shouts, "Froggy, are you forgetting something?" Its very
Show More
amusing to watch Froggy struggle through the process of getting ready for his adventure. A great book for K-2. This has a repeating plot and repeating questions that could be used as a mentor text for structured for writing.

We loved Froggy! And as a parent I love the literary value of this story for preschoolers with its repetitions and sequencing. My 4-year-old kept repeting the sequencing long after the story was read.
Great job Jonathan London!

The Froggy series is one of my favorite series. As a child my grandpa would read these stories to my sisters and I. Froggy gets dressed is a book that expresses humor and in my opinion could be a good book to work on sequencing with students. The language of the book is patterned. Froggy wakes up
Show More
one morning and realizes there is snow on the ground, and he cannot wait to go outside and play. The only problem is every time he goes outside he forgets one item of clothing. The language becomes repetitive because every time Froggy has to come back inside to get another item of clothing he must first take off the layers he has already put on. The author also uses a type of sound effects. For example, “buttoned up his shirt- zut! zut! zut! Then he snapped on his coat—znap! Put on his hat—zat! Tied on his scarf—zwit! Each of these sounds effects makes the story more engaging for the reader. The student can participate in the book by making the sounds effects as they are revealed in the story. In my opinion there is not a central message to the story. I think the point of the story is to be a humorous and be an interactive book for the reader.

I really enjoyed this book! It is a great text for beginning readers because the language is very simple, yet descriptive. For example one-page states, “He tugged on his mittens-ZUM! And flopped outside into the snow-FLOP FLOP FLOP.” This helps younger readers visualize what is happening in the
Show More
story! The book was also silly and engaging, as the main character leaves his house without underwear on and his mom embarrasses him. The main message in this book was the importance of following routines.

This silly book helps children to acquire self-care skills by teaching them how to dress themselves. Froggy, anxious to play in the snow, keeps forgetting to put on key articles of clothing while gearing up for the cold weather, and must keep taking everything else back off to complete his
Show More
wardrobe. This book can be very interactive with young children, prompting them to suggest what he is missing and how he can fix it.
