This is a clear and gracefully written review of the process in Putney (Vermont) Monthly Meeting (NEYM) of consideration and final approval for the meeting to marry same-sex couples under their care. It contains an excellent set of queries on clearness for marriage, appropriate for any couple, that was developed at Putney Meeting. The evolution of Friends' marriage procedures is reviewed, as well as the evolution of the concern among Friends over discrimination against gay people. The pamphlet examines how Friends can recognize equality and loving care for gay as well as straight Friends, and how to incorporate this into Quaker marriage practices. The 1989 joyful marriage of a gay couple under the care of Putney meeting is described.
