This is a lovely pamphlet, on how we avoid sympathy, to avoid seeing hurt and need and the consequences for us. Every sentence gently illuminates the subject further.
We build a shelter from compassion and maintain it scrupulously. These walls that shut people out also shut us in. It is also a barricade to keep God out.
The God within us IS compassion. The one valid communion with God is through the sacrament of devotion to love.
The Eichenberg woodcut is lovely
