Margaret Hope Bacon, a very respected Quaker author, has updated Brinton's original 300 year history. She has also edited Brinton, making corrections generally with no critical authority cited. I found that disquieting.

This is a very good introduction to the history and practice of the Religious Society of Friends. Howard Brinton starts from how Quakers practice our religion.
