Henshaw asks a perennial Quaker question: how can we relate responsibly to the political structure of our world? We must work to reunite political responsibility and ethical ideas, rather than withdraw. We need a religious and moral renaissance, in order to pursue moral political action. This is fine, but un inspiring.
He includes a short review of the history of Quaker legislative control of Pennsylvania, 1682-1765, with the British crown demanding a militia, and finally a draft law passed and most Quakers retired from the Legislature. This may be the most interesting part of the pamphlet.… (more)
