A lighthearted look at the world of alcoholic spirits, this book is an antidote to the discovery that retirement is not restful and not leisurely. No indeed; most retired people are overwhelmed with projects, club and committee schedules, family activities and obligations, voluntary work and in many cases, looking after young children or elderly relatives. My friend Anne and I decided the end of the week was a time to enjoy a "Happy Hour". We made a deliberate effort to separate the weekday "busyness" from the weekend. Once a month each of us looked forward to this escape when we concocted a cocktail. We researched the origins of various spirits and liqueurs and linked these histories to travels and experiences.
