This book presents a unique picture of the city in a collection of events and biographies, mainly of the period between about 1890 and 1950. As well as the civic issues which make up the fabric of any city, the author has written about events which have a significance beyond their immediate place and time such as prohibition, the Great War, and the controversial episodes of the Farmers Bank and the Home Bank, setting Toronto's histroy in a wider context.
