Rexroth of course is a well-known poet in his own right. This book gives his versions of poems by distinguiahed Chinese writers like Tu Fu and Su T'ung Po and Lu Yu, but also includes less well-known (in English) women poets Chu Shu Chen and Li Ch'ing Chao. I find his versions

I'm not sure how 'good' the translations are, but the resulting poems are very fine.

It is, of course, impossible to know what these poems sound like, look like, how they scan, or rhyme if you can't read the original Chinese, but I found several of them to be excellent in Rexroth's translation, especially those of Tu Fu. Rexroth has notes at the end of the text that are
