Description

Shavuot is approaching, but Gitele and Yankl have no money to buy ingredients for blintzes. So they come up with a plan. Every day, they'll each put a coin into the empty trunk. By Shvuot, they should have enough coins to buy the ingredients. But will they be able to stick to their plan and provide their family with delicious blintzes for Shavuot?

Another version of Strudel, Strudel, Strudel and Mountains of Blintzes and other Chelm stories in which a man, frequently a teacher, and his wife decide to put money in a trunk on wheels every week so that they will have enough money to make a delicious dessert for a holiday (Purim or Shavuot).

Alas, each one assuming the other will contribute, neither puts any additional coins in the trunk.
This story has them saving for Shavuot; the explanation that Chelm has 13 instead of the usual ten commandments ties in nicely with the holiday. BTW, the new commandments are that no teacher can live on a hill, make blintzes, or own a trunk on wheels.
