Who is the scariest monster of all? When you are a group of scary monsters, and you can't decide among yourselves, sometimes you have to build your own monster. The biggest, baddest monster EVER.

But what happens when your Biggest, Baddest Monster Ever isn't so bad, isn't so scary?

Maybe there is

more to the world than just being the biggest and baddest? And maybe it's up to a monster's monster to lead them?

A wonderful little tale of unexpectedly finding a new way to be happy. As taught by the Biggest Baddest Monster Ever.

Thank you to Little Brown for this review copy.

"Dank you" for this book!

The biggest, baddest monster EVER turns out to be gentle, thoughtful, and polite and teaches a subtle lesson in gratitude. A simple, sweet, inspired story.

Great fun Halloween book. A story about three monsters who are full of a lot of hot steam. The invent a monster, who ends up being charming. A book of how people come in many shapes sizes and personalities, but come together as friends. Great pictures. I like the character 'Doom and Gloom'.

I have to say, I'm not big on "monster books" and I will probably never fully appreciate much of the literature for little boys, but this Frankenstein fable is light, cute and fun. My son was amused, the text had a good flow in some parts and I would rate the story 3 and a 1/2 stars if I could. I
Show More
was a little annoyed by the dull color palette used for the pictures, until the final page spread when I understood why the illustrator had made that choice.

Perhaps inspired by The Grinch, three little monsters live "high atop a dark monster mountain, overlooking a monster-fearing village", living a life of monster thoughts, actions, and sayings. When they conspire to create "the biggest, baddest monster EVER", the experiment flips and what they have

on their hands is a lovable, toddler-like bon vivant filled with kindess and gentle wisdom. I love how this book ends. There is nothing circular about it, but sets the reader off onto a new trajectory, leaving plenty to think about. I imagine children, especially those clamoring for monsters, will appreciate the humor and irony of McDonnell's tale. Pair with Mo Willem's Leonardo the Terrible Monster and Mercer Mayer's There's a Nightmare in my Closet.

I knew I recognized this illustration style! Patrick McDonnell is the artist who draws the Mutts comic strip (and he illustrated Me... Jane, which I also quite liked). This book is adorable; it's about three little monsters who try to create their own even bigger and badder monster, except the

monster doesn't turn out quite like they wanted. The last two pages are especially fantastic.

Three little monsters work together to make the scariest monster ever but the monster just wants to be friends. A cute and funny story about expectations, gratitude and friendship. Nice illustrations and some good use of rhyme.

I loved this whole story! Grouch, Grump, and Gloom'n'Doom are three monsters who live together but constantly fight over who is the best monster. Eventually they decide to create the best monster together, but when their monster comes to life, he's not at all what they expected. A fun tale of

expectations, manners, and friendship that isn't scary and doesn't have to be Halloween related. Perfect for a monster-themed preschool story time.
