It take a little while to find its voice and never feels exactly comfortable with it. Not Megan Abbott's best work but it moves at a fast enough clip that it can gloss over a lot. While the fast pace of the novel stops it being boring it would have been nice it had stopped once in a while to flesh

out the characters a bit more. Even if it was going for a noir feel story telling has moved on in the last 50 years.
