Description

Rosario Castellanos was born in Mixico City in 1925. She was a fiction writer, poet, playwriter and ensayist. In 1971 she was appointed Mexican ambassador to Israel, where she died tragically in 1974. Balzn-Canan is her greatest novel. In it, conflicts in the indigenous world of Chiapas are infused with a universal resonance.

It was a well written book which draws the reader into a world of Patrons and Indians as the social order is collapsing. I, however, found it unpleasant and irritating to read because all actions were ruled by superstition, a superstition that wrought destruction and nothing else. Partially because
