Description
Dark forces are at work at the House of Night and fledging vampyre Zoey Redbird's adventures at the school take a mysterious turn. Those who appear to be friends are turning out to be enemies. And oddly enough, sworn enemies are also turning into friends. So begins the gripping third installment of this "highly addictive series" in which Zoey's mettle will be tested like never before. Her best friend Stevie Rae, is undead and struggling to maintain a grip on her humanity. Zoey doesn't have a clue how to help her, but she does know that anything she and Stevie Rae discover must be kept secret from everyone else at the House of Night, where trust has become a rare commodity. Speaking of rare: Zoey finds herself in the very unexpected and rare position of having three boyfriends. Mix a little blood lust into the equation and the situation has the potential to spell social disaster. Just when it seems things couldn't get any tougher, vampyres start turning up dead. Really dead. It looks like the People of Faith, and Zoey's horrid-step-father in particular, are tired of living side-by-side with vampyres. But, as Zoey and her friends so often find out, how things appear rarely reflects the truth.… (more)

Stop here because this will be a total spoiler for those who haven’t read this book. For those that have let me know if I’m wrong or right :)

So I thought Loren was totally hot and thought there was something suspicious about his interest in Zoey. It totally suck that he died and I kind of suspect that instead of the religious nuts being the killers it’s actually Neferet. I think this was her excuse for going to war on humans and I think she killed Loren because she was ticked off he imprinted with Zoey. What do you think?
I'm very interested to see what happens next with Zoey and company but continue so think the Casts need a better editor. The typos and wrong words have become rather jarring (e.g., "here yes" for "her eyes," "calvary" for "cavalry," etc.), and
The sex has become overt in this installment, and the tale is bloodier. I find myself unable to put down these books, in spite of my reservations/criticisms (see my review of Betrayed). They are just good brain candy!
With Zoey's friend
O.k So Chosen is like all hell has broke loose. So i guess you can agree with me when Zoey says (pg 82)"I think I'm turning into a Ho," yep, Zoey, ur a Ho, well she is........ that pretty much sums up the book.
So in Chosen Zoey has a pretty "crappy" life at the moment but then again she has 3 boyfriends so..how "crappy" can that be? hmmm....So she's juggling 3 boyfriends and is the leader of the dark daughters and is having issues with her BFF Stevie Ray and a whole bunch of other crap. Poor Zoey :( I feel bad for her but she's still annoying...i just feel bad....for her. So Chosen was pretty good. Towards the end like the last chapter my jaw was like on the floor. So my rating is...
Great read, I can't wait for the next one!
Still reeling from the events of Betrayed, Zoey is trying to continue in her
The third book was really hard to read, because all along, I knew that Zoey’s secrets would eventually catch up to her. In lying to her friends, who would have helped her with Stevie Rae and tried to keep the secret, she demonstrates that she doesn’t trust them, and that she is in turn not worthy of their trust. Even though she makes decisions, she doesn’t stick to them, like with her decision to stop seeing Heath and not allow herself to be swayed by Loren Blake. All of her strength of will seems to have disappeared.
The hardest part to read was her betrayal of Erik, during his Change, with Loren. All along she has been telling Erik that she was better than Aphrodite, and her actions made her look, to him, exactly the same. Zoey had a long, hard fall off of that pedestal.
The one-dimensionality of supporting characters continues to bother me. All the realness of Zoey’s friends seems to have vanished in this book—how could only one of them have known that she didn’t like Christmassy birthday presents? And, even if they were hurt by her lying to them about Stevie Rae, the fact that they were supposed to be her closest friends and they couldn’t even give her the chance to explain why she did it rankled. Even Neferet is extremely one sided, and as the villainess, she should have something interesting to bring to the table. We’ve only seen glimpses of her hatred of humans, and her darkness—give us a real reason to root for Zoey, other than the fact that the story is in her head.
I’ll be reading the 4th book, but I’m definitely hoping for a stronger storyline, less romantic moping, and more strength and determination from Zoey.
This shows peer pressure, elder pressure and alot of different teen pressures that can go on even though they are not real, it can help teens to learn about dealing with pressures and situations. Very good read.
I am glad that I didn't however as the next book helps turn around the mess Zoey created in this book.
After she completes her ritual for the first time for the 'new' Dark Daughters, her best friend Stevie Rae falls ill and isn't going to make the Change. This hits her quite hard and after all of this, she starts having very vivid dreams, or visions of Heath. Heath had been kidnapped and she has to try to save them and she comes to the conclusion that a certain someone isn't as really nice as they pretend to be.
Once again, PC and Kristin Cast have done a wonderful job with this part of the story and it really makes me look forward to reading the next book in line: Chosen. But let me tell you, the part with Stevie Rae dying really brought a lump to my throat and I almost started to cry. I really felt connected to the characters and I really felt for them during that time. But as the story moves forward, I just knew that Zoey would come out on top.
Some of the drama is certainly juvenile enough. (Irritatingly so for one that is not a teenager.) But the content is very, very mature. I was shocked that this is being written for teens. Yes, I know that they hear, see, and do
In this book Zoey returns to school poised to fulfill her obligations as the Leader of the Dark Daughters and Sons; she also
Needless to say initially there seems like there is going to be a lot going on in this book; but there isn't much that actually happens. Zoey spends a lot of the book, and I mean a lot of it, complaining about how she can't choose between Erik (the hottest Fledgling boy in the school), Heath (her human boyfriend that she accidentally Imprinted), and Lauren (the Vampire Poet who seems to have the hots for her). This got old really fast. Especially since none of the relationships with any of the guys were really developed in any way. As typical with this series the writing of this book was mediocre and the plot fairly predictable.
The only thing that really redeemed this book was how Zoey interacts with Stevie Rae; this part of the book is really interesting and really tugs at your curiosity. Curiously Neferet was absent for almost the whole book, which really sucked a lot of the urgency out of the story.
Still, overall this was a quick and fun read. I still found the story to be engaging (if a bit annoying at times) and I think the series has a lot of potential to get interesting in the next book. This is still a series where I will never go out and buy the books new; they just aren't worth the money. I will continue to read this series mainly because I already have the next two books in the series; I found them used.
