Description

Dark forces are at work at the House of Night and fledging vampyre Zoey Redbird's adventures at the school take a mysterious turn. Those who appear to be friends are turning out to be enemies. And oddly enough, sworn enemies are also turning into friends. So begins the gripping third installment of this "highly addictive series" in which Zoey's mettle will be tested like never before. Her best friend Stevie Rae, is undead and struggling to maintain a grip on her humanity. Zoey doesn't have a clue how to help her, but she does know that anything she and Stevie Rae discover must be kept secret from everyone else at the House of Night, where trust has become a rare commodity. Speaking of rare: Zoey finds herself in the very unexpected and rare position of having three boyfriends. Mix a little blood lust into the equation and the situation has the potential to spell social disaster. Just when it seems things couldn't get any tougher, vampyres start turning up dead. Really dead. It looks like the People of Faith, and Zoey's horrid-step-father in particular, are tired of living side-by-side with vampyres. But, as Zoey and her friends so often find out, how things appear rarely reflects the truth.… (more)

I had a really, really hard time getting through this book. In fact, after the first 1/4 of it I was tempted to put it down and stop reading. This series as a whole so far has been filled with ups and downs. Book 1 was just ok to me and book 2 was a lot better. I will say that the last 40 or so

pages of Chosen was great and made me glad I kept reading and now I am kicking myself for having left book 4, Untamed, at home. Zoey’s boyfriend problems are pretty much her own fault and while she seems to realize her behavior is horrible she doesn’t do much to stop it. I have to admit at this point I’m actually preferring Aphrodite over Zoey now that Aphrodite seems to be making a change for the better.

Stop here because this will be a total spoiler for those who haven’t read this book. For those that have let me know if I’m wrong or right :)

So I thought Loren was totally hot and thought there was something suspicious about his interest in Zoey. It totally suck that he died and I kind of suspect that instead of the religious nuts being the killers it’s actually Neferet. I think this was her excuse for going to war on humans and I think she killed Loren because she was ticked off he imprinted with Zoey. What do you think?

I'll say it again: This series is addictive, yet flawed.

I'm very interested to see what happens next with Zoey and company but continue so think the Casts need a better editor. The typos and wrong words have become rather jarring (e.g., "here yes" for "her eyes," "calvary" for "cavalry," etc.), and
Show More
there is still the occasional "When did that happen?" moment where the narrative seems inconsistent.

The sex has become overt in this installment, and the tale is bloodier. I find myself unable to put down these books, in spite of my reservations/criticisms (see my review of Betrayed). They are just good brain candy!

O.k So Chosen is like all hell has broke loose. So i guess you can agree with me when Zoey says (pg 82)"I think I'm turning into a Ho," yep, Zoey, ur a Ho, well she is........ that pretty much sums up the book.

So in Chosen Zoey has a pretty "crappy" life at the moment but then again she has 3 boyfriends so..how "crappy" can that be? hmmm....So she's juggling 3 boyfriends and is the leader of the dark daughters and is having issues with her BFF Stevie Ray and a whole bunch of other crap. Poor Zoey :( I feel bad for her but she's still annoying...i just feel bad....for her. So Chosen was pretty good. Towards the end like the last chapter my jaw was like on the floor. So my rating is...

Zoey's adventures at the House of Night continue, as well as betrayal, and death. Zoey is torn now between three boyfriends and finds that not all is as it seems.

Great read, I can't wait for the next one!

The third book in the series helps continue the storyline, but it wasn't my favorite. Having Zoe interested in three guys is getting to be too much.
LibraryThing member spotzzzgirl
Chosen was even more action packed than the first two books in the series. Things started off slowly, and by then end, I was left sort of shell-shocked, wondering how everything had spiraled out of control so easily.

Still reeling from the events of Betrayed, Zoey is trying to continue in her
Show More
position of leadership of the Dark Daughters, while attempting to figure out how to untangle her romantic life, save her best friend, and deal with the fact that the High Priestess of the school has become twisted and evil. Zoey makes some hard choices, including keeping secrets from her friends and lying to her boyfriend Erik, in order to do what she thinks is right; only in the end does she realize that her lies and deceptions have played right into Neferet’s hands.

The third book was really hard to read, because all along, I knew that Zoey’s secrets would eventually catch up to her. In lying to her friends, who would have helped her with Stevie Rae and tried to keep the secret, she demonstrates that she doesn’t trust them, and that she is in turn not worthy of their trust. Even though she makes decisions, she doesn’t stick to them, like with her decision to stop seeing Heath and not allow herself to be swayed by Loren Blake. All of her strength of will seems to have disappeared.

The hardest part to read was her betrayal of Erik, during his Change, with Loren. All along she has been telling Erik that she was better than Aphrodite, and her actions made her look, to him, exactly the same. Zoey had a long, hard fall off of that pedestal.

The one-dimensionality of supporting characters continues to bother me. All the realness of Zoey’s friends seems to have vanished in this book—how could only one of them have known that she didn’t like Christmassy birthday presents? And, even if they were hurt by her lying to them about Stevie Rae, the fact that they were supposed to be her closest friends and they couldn’t even give her the chance to explain why she did it rankled. Even Neferet is extremely one sided, and as the villainess, she should have something interesting to bring to the table. We’ve only seen glimpses of her hatred of humans, and her darkness—give us a real reason to root for Zoey, other than the fact that the story is in her head.

I’ll be reading the 4th book, but I’m definitely hoping for a stronger storyline, less romantic moping, and more strength and determination from Zoey.

still enjoying this series. it's not the best vampire story i've ever read, but it certainly isn't the worst. and it's keeping me current with my teens.thank god the boyfriend issue was finally RESOLVED.
LibraryThing member fiveforsilver
Not the best YA vampire series I've ever read. I kept reading parts and thinking "oh, that reminds me of" some other YA fantasy book. I'm just getting bored with teenage vampires in general, I think. I won't say that everything good has already been done, because that's silly, but it is the new

"thing" and people are jumping on the bandwagon instead of coming up with other ideas. Still, these were enjoyable enough and I'll read the next book when it comes out.

Zoey had a lot ot deal with her young teen life. She seems to be doing well and holding her own for a while in this one, but having to keep secrets and knowing more than others makes it a difficult one for her and makes her lose her friends. Which is a sad fate, I am hoping once they all find out
Show More
what is exactly going on that she will regain her friends trust and everything will be okay with her.

This shows peer pressure, elder pressure and alot of different teen pressures that can go on even though they are not real, it can help teens to learn about dealing with pressures and situations. Very good read.

I could have quite happily left this book alone if it wasn't for the maddening desire to find out what happens next. Any empathy towards Zoey was right out there as far as I saw it she was just being dumb now, even though her friend's frustrated me with how angry they got with her over her keeping
Show More
secrets, the fact that she got her self into the messes that she did made me want to shut the book.
I am glad that I didn't however as the next book helps turn around the mess Zoey created in this book.

The very last sentence in that, I agree with wholeheartedly. Now before I get too ahead of myself here, I'll start from the beginning. We come together again with Zoey as she is trying to find her way as the new leader of the Dark Daughters. She wants to change things from what they were when

Aphrodite was in charge. Make in nicer ... to everyone. Then as the story progresses she comes face to face with Loren, who BTW is the most gorgeous, adult vampyre that she meets and he seems to have taken an obvious interest in her. But she gets distracted when some of the guys that her ex-boyfriend Heath used to hang out with start going missing and end up dead. Trying to escape for a short period she finds herself in a little mess involving Heath and they become Imprinted again. Darn, bloodlust!

After she completes her ritual for the first time for the 'new' Dark Daughters, her best friend Stevie Rae falls ill and isn't going to make the Change. This hits her quite hard and after all of this, she starts having very vivid dreams, or visions of Heath. Heath had been kidnapped and she has to try to save them and she comes to the conclusion that a certain someone isn't as really nice as they pretend to be.

Once again, PC and Kristin Cast have done a wonderful job with this part of the story and it really makes me look forward to reading the next book in line: Chosen. But let me tell you, the part with Stevie Rae dying really brought a lump to my throat and I almost started to cry. I really felt connected to the characters and I really felt for them during that time. But as the story moves forward, I just knew that Zoey would come out on top.

The writing in this one was quite a bit better than the first two though still greatly lacking. The sexist language has also calmed down quite a bit. This is a brilliant and original story that has so much potential. With some decent character development and a good writer who has a varied
Show More
vocabulary and doesn't rehash the same stuff over and over again this would be a 5 star series.I feel so bad for Erik who seems like such a genuinely good guy. I'm hoping he'll come back in the next book with a good role to play and end up with some of the happiness that he deserves.

I am not happy with the fact that this series is categorized as YA.

Some of the drama is certainly juvenile enough. (Irritatingly so for one that is not a teenager.) But the content is very, very mature. I was shocked that this is being written for teens. Yes, I know that they hear, see, and do

worse. Yes, I know that they are going to learn this stuff anyway. But, geez, let's not help them along.

Another compelling installment in the series. I just wish the authors would rest assured that we remember the details from the previous books and stop reviewing everything. Zoey is starting to discover some rather unpleasant aspects of her new life and changing personality which keeps her an

interesting character.

I just couldn't get into this third book. I liked the first book and was really getting into the second, but the dialogue and the telling instead of showing was really getting to me. Plus for some reason "brown pop" was a phrase I never wanted to see printed again. Maybe I'll try again later.

I received this book from the Early Reviewer's program for my teenaged son, who is a huge fan of urban fantasy. He gulped down this book in two sittings, and is now looking for the other books by this writer.
LibraryThing member 4sarad
I thought this was a good one. Just as good as the first and much better than the second. Some of the characters can be a bit annoying at times, but it's definitely an interesting story and fun to read. I'm sure I'll finish the series.
LibraryThing member calexis
I really do believe that the series is going at a really slow pace. It's already the third book and Zoey has only been at the House of Night for two months. She's only a third former, and there's still two to three more years. In this third book, Zoey seems to have become more like a child than she
Show More
was in the first two. She makes crappy decisions. She loses sight of her own virtues that were so highly stressed before. She even loses her virginity at the age of 16, after making it clear to her boyfriend that she wasnt ready only to be seduced by an older man. Although you come to learn that he was using her and must have some emotional attachment, the bottom line is that Zoey Redbird is not living up to the heroine that she's supposed to be.

Yet again P.C. and Kristin Cast has done it again. The House of Night Series just keep getting better and better. It's December at the House Of Night and Zoey must deal with her sucky 24 birthday at first. But she also has to deal with saving her undead best friend Stevie Rae by helping her keep
Show More
her Humanity. As for the guy's in Zoeys life, leave her one by one. On top of that Vampyres are being Killed at the House Of Night and Zoey must deal withNeferet as she stills fools everyone at the House Of Night except Zoey.

Zoey had been marked and had to move to the house of night. She then begins the process of becoming a Vampire. Zoey had a lot to learn but she has the help of Nyx and her friends to get though it. Zoey also had a lot of boy trouble.

I would have to completely agree with glade1 (see review below) “I'll say it again: This series is addictive, yet flawed…I find myself unable to put down these books, in spite of my reservations/criticisms... They are just good brain candy!” I did enjoy this book in the series better than the
Show More
previous two, yet the teenager language is still unbearable at times. Also, the author(s) like to repeat their selves too much, especially about the Indian word for daughter. We, the readers, do remember things. Overall, I was pleased with this book. I will continue with the series just because I have acquired the books, and would like to know what happens next to Zoey.

This book was awesome! I especially liked the ending...and a lot of the book was so unpredictable! Zoey's juggling three boyfriends, hiding her undead best friend from everybody else, but aphrodite, her use to be worst enemy, and trying to battle, Neferet, the high preistess. Many bad things happen
Show More
to Zoey during this time....many betrayals, and abandonment. Can Zoey possibly hand it all? Also, it's funny how in the beginning of the book, Zoey's complaining about her terrible birthday, cause she has a brithmas. Birthday and christmas smushed together. But then more and more bad stuff happens too her, and the birthmas situation seems like a tiny bug among giant elephants!

This is the third book in the House of Night series. I think it was one of the worst books in the series; but it was still engaging and fast to read so I rate it as an "okay".

In this book Zoey returns to school poised to fulfill her obligations as the Leader of the Dark Daughters and Sons; she also
Show More
needs to find a way to deal with Stevie Rae, she needs to deal with the evil Nefertiti, and she has to do all of this while juggling three hot guys.

Needless to say initially there seems like there is going to be a lot going on in this book; but there isn't much that actually happens. Zoey spends a lot of the book, and I mean a lot of it, complaining about how she can't choose between Erik (the hottest Fledgling boy in the school), Heath (her human boyfriend that she accidentally Imprinted), and Lauren (the Vampire Poet who seems to have the hots for her). This got old really fast. Especially since none of the relationships with any of the guys were really developed in any way. As typical with this series the writing of this book was mediocre and the plot fairly predictable.

The only thing that really redeemed this book was how Zoey interacts with Stevie Rae; this part of the book is really interesting and really tugs at your curiosity. Curiously Neferet was absent for almost the whole book, which really sucked a lot of the urgency out of the story.

Still, overall this was a quick and fun read. I still found the story to be engaging (if a bit annoying at times) and I think the series has a lot of potential to get interesting in the next book. This is still a series where I will never go out and buy the books new; they just aren't worth the money. I will continue to read this series mainly because I already have the next two books in the series; I found them used.
