Description
Eleven-year-old Marianne is fortunate. She one of the first two hundred Jewish children on the heroic rescue operation known as the Kindertransport, which arrived in London, England in December, 1938. With the outbreak of World War II in 1939 Marianne finds herself being evacuated to Wales. She is shuffled from one unsuitable home to another, but there is a surprise in store and Marianne's courage and resilience is finally rewarded.

There is an interesting historical story hidden here, though the author and artist work really hard to obscure it.
First, the art is a murky gray throughout. It seems to be reproduced directly from the artist's pencils. She drew characters that are often little more than stick figures in the
I assume the author is aiming this work at younger children, because she writes in that patronizingly simplistic way some people mistakingly think children's literature should be written. Our heroine is subjected to a string of bad foster parents and angelic helpers as she makes her way from Germany to London to Wales. The whole thing seems unnecessarily harsh on foster parents.
Anyhow, it was good to be provided vague insight into how the Kindertransport program and the evacuation of children from London worked and may have effected those involved.

This is a very simple graphic novel and Jewish children sent to London at the beginning of WWII. The poor girl's name is mis-pronounced, and some of the people "helping" her don't really care about her as a person at all. She writes her mother and hopes someone will sponsor her mother for a job and
