Description

Challenging riddles, enigmas, logic problems and mind-benders, all with a Jewish twist. Jews have always been a puzzling people. In both senses of the word. We have certainly caused consternation and bewilderment over the ages (just contemplate the mysteries of gefilte fish, for example). And we have, by and large, always enjoyed a good intellectual mind-bender. From dreidels to Dungeons & Dragons, Jews have enjoyed a tradition of dreying their kops. And you will find plenty that will cause you to do just that in this book. In these pages you will find some classic puzzles, lovingly collected over the years. You will also encounter brand new ones, created especially for this book. Each contains a bit of a Jewish twist to add to the flavor. But, like they used to say about the rye bread... You don t have to be Jewish to enjoy this book! So strain your brain and try your hand at these kosher conundrums, and if you do well, then congratulate yourself and say: Puzzle Tov!… (more)

A fun collection of math and logical reasoning puzzles with a Jewish twist. Many of the puzzles are old chestnuts repurposed to include a Jewish element (A cowboy rides into town on Shabbos; three days later he leaves on Shabbos. How is this possible?), but there are a few that even I hadn't seen

before. The puzzles are rated so that you don't have to try anything that might be too difficult, or you can go straight for the tougher ones. The only problem I had was that the version I received was a pdf, so I had to keep paging back and forth between the various puzzles and the pages on which the solutions were listed; this would have been easier with an actual book.

Recommended for puzzle fans of all ages. Obviously there is some advantage in some puzzles with the terminology if you're Jewish, but the religiosity is sprinkled with a light touch, and doesn't really interfere with the solving.

Short book of Jewish-themed brainteasers, some of them based on pretty old jokes and some requiring mathematical cleverness. I enjoyed it and was stumped by more than a few, but had the appropriate head-slapping reaction when I read the answers. For a puzzle-loving kid (or even adult) in your life.

I've seen most of these puzzles elsewhere, but what makes this book fun is the Jewish angle - and this is definitely a book for a Jewish audience. There are many words and stories that likely will leave anyone not very familiar with Judaism quite confused.
There is a great diversity here: math

puzzles, word puzzles, guess-the-real name puzzles, so pretty much something for everyone. Then there are a few that make absolutely no sense (the albatross sandwich, for example, was just silly).
Puzzle lovers likely will discover very little new here, but it will certainly offer a bit of fun to anyone new to the world of puzzles.

Read through Early Reviewers program. Some classic puzzles recast and a few new to me (irrespective of the recasting). One line in the description says "You don't have to be Jewish to enjoy this book!", but it helps to have Jewish knowledge to answer a few of the puzzles! A few of the solutions

said the reader needed to take leaps of logic, but a few more didn't make that claim yet should have - some of the answers came out of nowhere, solved with information that could not even be inferred. Still, it's fun.

Formatting note: PDF is not the optimum way to read this.

What a fun book! I haven't read all of the puzzles, but that's kind of the point of the book. You pick it up, you do a brainteaser, and you pick it up again some other time. I am really enjoying it, and I will be buying some for gifts.

A fun collection of brain teasers. My husband especially loved them.

I was excited to get this book as I am a cantor and teach many different ages at my synagogue. I enjoyed going through the puzzles myself and look forward to using them with students in the future as fun ways to engage them. This is a unique book that I haven't seen in any other shape or form!
