Description

These twenty-four lectures offer an introduction to the history, literature, and religion of ancient Israel and early Judaism as it is presented in the collection of texts called the Old Testament, the Hebrew Bible, and the Tanakh. Attention is given not only to the content of the biblical books but also to the debates over their meaning and the critical methods through which they have been interpreted.

author, Amy-Jill Levine does lament at the end of the series that there wasn't near enough time to cover everything she wanted. Agreed. But I feel I have a better handle on the stories and know a bit more about who was who and who did what and why. She hits hard the concept of what it means to be a "covenant people" and how covenants are different from laws. I wish she'd do another series adding on to this one. In fact, the course could be 3 times as long and still not cover all she wanted to say or I wanted to hear.
