The author would like us to imagine what it would be like if Chelm were an entire country, and not just a small town. There are three sages, one who furrows his brow, one who says "Aha!' and one who ponders. And a young woman who works for them. Meanwhile the king of Chelm complains that whoever is

responsible for stopping him from eating his hardboiled egg has deprived him of all the egg's future eggs and chickens that are rightfully his. The young woman resolves the problem resulting from this, marries the prince, and everyone lives happily ever after. The egg issue sounds familiar to me, but I can't remember exactly where I read something similar. The story is more like a fairy tale with some amusing bits than like a Chelm story.
