Two boys are constantly late to school. The shortcut always turns in to a long route! They tell their tall tales explaining why they are tardy. In the end, the teacher is proven wrong and realizes that they were telling the truth the entire time!

The two main characters in this book are always late for school because something ALWAYS comes up. If it's not aliens, it's pirates. Or frogs!
So they decide to leave super early and take a shortcut... that leads them through a jungle... and into a swamp... oh dear.
It's really funny as you read it,

and the nieces get a kick out of seeing them swinging through vines and (in the epilogue) scrambling over rocks. Definitely check this one out. Show Less

An excellent book to help children develop narrative skills. The pictures and sequence of events as Floyd and Wendell go through their secret shortcut through the forest, jungle, gorge, muddy swamp and the woods. Also an excellent vocabulary builder.
