For over 150 Million years, sea turtles have roamed the oceans of the world, watching the dinosaurs come and go. These once abundant creatures may soon be gone forever as a result of shrimp nets of commercial shrimp trawling vessels of over 80 nations. Fortunately, there is a simple, inexpensive and highly effective device that prevents turtles from drowning. Turtle Excluder Devices (TEDs) have proven to be 97 percent effective at releasing turtles without significantly reducing shrimp catch. The use of TEDs on the fleets of all shrimp fishing nations is critical to avoid costly shrimp boycotts and trade restrictions. "Turtle Excluder Devices should help convince fisheries managers and government officials of the wisdom of quickly adopting this new and effective technology. What commends TEDs is their simplicity, efficiency, economy and availability." -- Noel Brown, North American Director, United Nations Environment Programme (from the back cover)
