A rhythmic rhyme and active text invite the reader to read along. It simply captures the transitions children make as they grow from one to five. Simple images highlight the text and illustrate repetitions.

This is a good book to teach children that they should judt be themselves. The book is about the important parts of being: one, two, three, four, five, or six. This book is simple but has a wonderful story line behind it. Children should be themselves and this book explains to them why. I would use

The story goes through the important things about being one, two, three, four, five, and six. The most important thing is about being you. The last page has a mirror.

This book is about why it is important to be 6,5,4,3,2,1! It talks about the things you learn to do and can do at these ages, like learn to walk, talk and read. It was a very neat book and would be a great toddler age book.

the end of the book is a cleverly concealed mirror for the reader/listener to gaze into, inviting them into a reciprocal relationship with the book. Chris Raschka's illustrations seem to rollick right along with Margaret Wise Brown's words. The pictures seem to literally dance through the pages. An idea to facilitate the message of self discovery in the book would be to either let the child/student use the mirror in the book or one you provide and draw a self portrait. Another idea would be the child to have a dialogue with him/her self as they gaze into the mirror about all the wonderful things that they can do. A teacher/adult could write down what they verbalize on paper for the child/student to take home. Show Less
