Reoccurring themes found throughout the book include accepting others that are different from yourself and discovering and appreciating your own differences as well. Being reminded of both is important at all ages.
The text is simple and to the point, which allows the illustrations to do a lot of
Show More
the story telling. One thing that really stands out in the illustrations is the sense of movement that they provide. When the egg is falling through a tunnel, the movement is shown, when the animals are swimming, it is apparent that feet are paddling and when the goose is falling and then flying, the movement of its wings is captured. The use of shading is also wonderfully done.
Might be a great story to share with a preschool-2nd grade class during a discussion on acceptance/differences.

This book is about a goose egg that rolls into a woodchuck nest. The woodchucks raise the goose as one of them, so she does not realize that she is really a goose. She feels lonely like something is missing. At the end of the book, she learns she is a goose and she can fly!! This

This is a book about a baby goose. The goose is hatched in a nest of woodchucks because on a stormy night it rolled into their den. The goose was accepted into her new home. She learned everything her brothers and sisters learned. She noticed that she looked different from everyone else. Her family
Show More
tried to make her feel happy but nothing worked. She went off to find out for herself. It only made matters worse and it made her upset. She then got lost and fell. She was flapping and found out that she could fly. She was amazed. She flew all the way home. This book is special because it does not matter what you look like, but those who love you is what matters. This is a great book.

This book was about a goose who before she was born was separated from her family. When she was born the family that found her treated her like she was one of them, but she felt different and lonely. She decided to go off on her own but it did not help until she learned she could fly. She flew

home, and was happy. I like this book for students because it shows that being different does not mean anything.

While all the eggs were being prepared to hatch, one lone egg rolled away in the midst of a storm. When the goose hatched, she was among a family of woodchucks. She was raised with them but always felt a little sad, knowing that something was different about her. Finally, one day she went off on an

adventure to try to explore and find out more about herself. What she found was self discovery, the greatest discovery of all. She returned home to her family of woodchucks, much more content about herself and happy to be who she was.
