Hilarious tale of Duck's foray into politics. Great for storytime.

This is an example of a fantasy book. This is a small step away from reality with talking animals, but it is believeable. It tells the truth about the hard work of politices and government in a way that children can easily understand. The main character in the book is the duck. The duck is a roundy
Show More
dynamic character. We know a lot about him and we learn how he changes. He changes in the end by realizing that in the end he should have stayed on the farm the whole time. I would use this book in a late primary, early intermediate classroom. The type of media used is mixed media, using a variety of media enhances each picture and page.

This is fantasy because it has talking animals in it. The setting of this story changes many times, but it is not very descriptive. It starts on a farm in some town. When duck runs for governor it never says governor of where. The setting is not a specific place, but is set in present day.

While the book is adorable and funny, the irony and humor are largely lost on preschoolers. Duck decides that he is overworked and underappreciated (he's expected to do chores on the farm), and tries to move up in the world, only to find that with bigger privileges come bigger responsibilities and
Show More
headaches. Farmer Brown, as always, is underappreciated too, but he sticks with his farm. My pre-schooler keeps asking to have this one read over and over, apparently trying to follow what the talk of votes, numbers, political offices, and late-night television is all about.

This book is a wonderful story about a duck that runs for president. This storyline makes this book a good example of a fantasy because it could not happen. The texts style is also very well crafted in this book. The basic format is repeated through each section. This makes it so this book has a
Show More
good pattern and moves along easily.

Picture Book. This book is a fun introduction to politics. Its message is strong. Even a duck can be president. In the story a farm duck gets bored and decides to run for president because he wants more say in the chores he has to do. However, Duck keeps giving up after every promotion because he
Show More
thinks its too hard. He organizes his friends to vote for him. In the end he is happy doing the farm chores and being a duck.

This book would be great when talking about government and how elections work and how much responcibility it is for the person who wins. Duck desides he doesn't like his jobs on the farm so he becomes a polition. He goes all the way up to president of the United States. Duck decides that he would
Show More
rather be a duck than president, and goes back to the farm. I loved this book it was funny yet realistic enough to teach a lesson with.

Summary:
Third book in a series of three by Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin about barnyard animals aspiring to be more than what they actually are. In this story Duck is tired of being a duck and being expected to pull his weight around on the farm. He decides to run for public office and ends up
Show More
running for president. Of course he ends up missing the farm and being a duck so he eventually goes home.

Review:

This is a classic "grass is greener" story with the always loveable characters and wonderful art I've come to expect from Lewin. While some of the ideas may be too big for younger kids, adults will get the humor and in an election year it is a great place to start questions about elections and our democratic process. Great books.

Great for all ages. Duck runs for president of the farm. Children can write a story about a time they led a group to do something.

This book tells about a duck who wants to be in charge. He runs for head of the farm he is on and wins. He does not like that so he runs for governor. He does not like that either and runs for President. He wins all of his elections but decides to write an autobiography.

This is a great book for younger students. It is about a duck who gets fed up with his life on the farm so he decides to take political office. The pictures are great and this book is very funny. This would be good for a lesson around election time.

This book would be great to read to a class during election time. The book focuses on every job, not matter how small or big, is important and is hard work. The duck keeps thinking if he gets another job it will be easier and he finds out that this is not the case. He runs for head of the farm,
Show More
govenor, and president. This book is very cute and humorous.

This book would be appropriate for grades K-4. This book would be good to use around election time. It will help students learn about the voting and election process. It also shows the different levels of power.

This is a fun book for children to learn the different stages many Presidents go through before obtaining the office of Presidency.

"Duck for President" by Doreen Cronin is an excellent modern fantasy about a Duck who becomes bored and agitated by his chores on the farm. He decides to run for farmer because he believes he should be the one in charge. He wins the election and becomes the farmer. Duck soon becomes stressed and
Show More
sees that running a farm is very hard work. So he decides to run for governor and wins. He then runs for president and wins that election, too! Duck becomes overwhelmed and returns to his old job on the farm where he is much happier. This shows that the grass is not always greener on the other side and you should appreciate what you have before you start looking for something better.

This story is about a duck running for president. It follows him on the campaign trail all the way to the ballot box, and onward to be president then back home at the farm. A very cute book, expressive in illustrations. My eight yr old thought it was funny! Its cute. Grade group 2-4

Duck for President is a fun childrens about a duck who isn't happy working at the farm. He runs elections to become head over the farm, then governor, and then president. Duck isn't happy with any of these jobs so he returns to the farm and writes about his adventure.

This book was really fun to
Show More
read. It has colorful pictures and animals which both of these capture kids attention.

I think this would be a good book to have in the classroom. The kids would enjoy reading it because of the animals taking charge. This book would stretch their imagination to think about animals taking over the world. This book would also be good to read to your class when there is an election going on. After reading this book, you could explain about elections and why we have them.

Duck for President is about a duck on a farm that does not like being a farm animal anymore. He starts to run elections so he can try to become the President. After all the trouble he goes through he realizes he does not like that job either and returns to the farm and retells the story of his
Show More
journey to become President.

I loved this book and also used it to create my lesson plan in Intro to teaching. My nephew also loved listening to me read this story.

I would use this in my class if we were talking about politics or if my class was holding a little in-class electing as well.

This is a story about a cute little duck who wants to become president. The duck started in a pond. He moved to a farm and got elected as the farmer. Then he got elected as the governor. He finally ran for president and won that postition too. The duck decided to leave and return back to the farm
Show More
to help the farmer. At the end of the story, the duck decides to write an autobiography of his life. This is a cute story and it is appropriate for intermediate readers. The story is very entertaining and the illustrations are very colorful. and then a governor.

Summary:
In the beginning of the story there are farm animals who do not like to do chores, so the duck of the farm decides he wants to run the farm. So all the animals vote. He then decides that he wants to run for bigger things such as the Governor and President. He then realizes that all of these
Show More
jobs were harder than he had expected.

Personal Reaction:
This book I feel was to get the point across that the jobs of people who are head of you, are not easy. That in order to be able to do such jobs as a farmer, governor and president are very hard jobs that most people do not understand. I feel this book is for kids who are a little older like 2nd grade.

Classroom Extension Ideas:
I think that this is a good idea to let the students vote for a child in class and see who wins. Just so that they can understand how the voting system goes.

This was a very entertaining picture book. I read this with a third grade class as they were learning about the election process. The book is about a farm and Duck, who is displeased with his farm chores. He is able to make his way up the election chain from head of the farm to governor to
Show More
president of the country. He realizes that he actually had it very good back on the farm doing his chores so he eventually returns and all goes back to normal. I thought this was a great book for kids. The kids loved the book and I think it did a good job of educating them about the election processes and different positions of power in the government. The illustrations were also a lot of fun.

"Duck for President" is about a group of farm animals that decide to elect the Duck for president after being unsatisfied with how farmer brown was running things.

This book is so cute and teaches a great lesson about hard work and chores.

I would use this book as a writing lesson where I would
Show More
read the book to the student then have them come up with there own imaginative stories using animals and everyday activities.

This book is a good example of fantasy because a duck has taken on human characteristics. This is not a folktale because it is not based on historical events, of someone else's culture or religion. This story is a fun story that brings a real thing to a kid's level, elections. It has animals that
Show More
kids are familiar with and puts them in a fun story.

Plot: Good example of a episodic plot, goes through the story with three main parts then leads to the end of the story.

Level: Primary

This book was about a farm where the animals were getting tired of not getting what they wanted and wanted to make a change. The duck believes that he can do a better job than farmer Brown and starts campaining to become president.

This was a pretty funny book. I thought that some of the jokes would
Show More
be over the childrens heads, however, made it fun to read.

In the classroom I could use this book to talk about the government, such as, the different branches. Or I could talk about the campaining process. I could have the students hold a mock election.

In Duck for President, Duck is the hardest working animal according to the animals posted chore list. The cows, Sheep, and pigs only had one chore when Duck had three. At the end of everyday Duck was exhausted and filthy. In an act of rebellion Duck decided that he should be in charge and calls for
Show More
election where he will run against the farmer to be the one in charge. AND WINS. Duck decided it was hard work running a farm and decides to run for governor. He campaigns, shakes hands and kisses babies- and WINS. He again found out that being governor was hard work and decideds to run for the president. He kisses more babies, gives speeches that only ducks understand and rode in parades - AND WINS. After just a short while he realizes that being president was hard work and no fun at all, After reading the farmers ad "DUCK NEEDED" he left the vice-president incharge and heads back to the farm.
In reading this one it proves the fact that the grass isn't always greener on the other side. My kids thought it was hilarious that we could possibly have a Duck for President.
In a classroom setting we could use this as an intro to a discussion as to what jobs entail and the responsibilties that go along with them. We could also use this book as a guide on compaigning and how to win an election, of sorts.
