This is a really sad book about a little boy who went to visit his grandmother in the nursing home. I probably will not read this to the class unless I know a student who is struggling with his grandparents living in a nursing home; otherwise its very sad and sort of depressing.

Gram, Timmie’s Grandma, was living with him and his family until she fell and broke her hip. Now Gram has to stay at a nursing home with full time care. This book is about the family’s first visit to the nursing home and how all of them are dealing with Gram’s new living environment. Timmie

is scared and nervous, his mom is sad and tries to pretend everything is fine, and Gram seems to be happy and enjoying her new environment. Timmie soon sees through his mothers and grandmothers persona and realizes no one is happy about Gram being in a nursing home. When the family is leaving, Timmie realizes he forgot to give Gram a present he had bought for her. He runs back into the home and finds Gram hysterically crying. She tells him she is so sad and misses him and his mother so much. Timmie explains to Gram that she needs to tell his mom how she feels because his mom is sad too. Timmie runs and gets his mother, the family comforts each other and tells Gram no matter what ,she will be home soon.

This book is unfortunately about a topic most people in their lives will have to deal with. People get old and sometimes have to be put into nursing homes. This is a great book for anyone with children whose grandparents are getting older. This book will help them cope with the changes of someone they love moving into an overnight facility. I felt this book was extremely emotional, I cried while reading it. That is a good thing, seeing as it will teach children it is okay to let their emotions out and it is perfectly normal.
After reading this story in a classroom it would be very rewarding for the children to go on a field trip to a nursing home where they could sing songs and present art work to the elderly people living there. Another activity could be to have a class discussion about the feelings Timmie may have been feeling and if any of the students had ever had any similar feelings or experiences.

This is a cute book about a grandmother who is in a nursing home and her family is coming to see her. Her grandson Timmy is worried about seeing her because she hasn't seen her since she fell and can't walk again. Timmy is scared she won't be the same any more. But when they get to the nursing home

This book is a great book to tell a child who is going through a situation like this. I went through this a few years ago and even at my age I would have loved to read this book. I like how it is about a real life situation and real life feelings. Great book.

Personally I didn't care for this book. I couldn't get into it much. The first couple pages didn't catch my interest and I just wanted it to be overwith. The storyline was heartfelt, but it wasn't my favorite.

What an important topic! I wish I would have had this book to share with my child when we were dealing with this situation. The illustrations are so realistic it took my breath away (it showed exactly what a trip to a nursing home would look like). It gave me and my child a lot to talk about,

especially different coping strategies for grief and sadness, and would have been a perfect way to talk about what we were dealing with after my grandfather's stroke. Talking about some fictional person's situation is easier than exploring the layers of our own emotional issues. I think this is an excellent book for young children (up to 6th grade, perhaps) who are dealing with a cherished family member or friend who is in a nursing home or rehabilitation center.
