We have kind of a family in-joke about llamas, so when I saw this book, I had to get it for our daughter. Since then, I'm so glad I did! She loves it, and I love reading it to her...the rhyme and rhythym are excellent, and the illustrations are classy and amusing. I love all the different animals,
Show More
and the introduction to the different behaviors.
My daughter is one now, and she still enjoys this book; I imagine she will for years to come.

Lloyd the Llama goes arouns the forrest asking his friends if his their mama is a llama. The friends describe their mama's and Lloyd figures out what kind of mama they are. He asks his friends a bat, a swan, a cow, a seal, and a kangaroo.

The illustrations are very dated but the storyline is cute
Show More
and can be interactive with a toddler or early reader. The child could guess, along with Lloyd, who the mama's are. The wording is also rhymes, to add to the joy of the reading.

Lloyd the llama goes around asking all his friends, 'Is your mama a llama?' Each baby animal responds with a cute little rhyme describing his mother, affirming that she is NOT a llama, and...when you turn the page...revealing what animal she is. The picture of the baby animal, the words used to
Show More
describe the mother, and the unfinished rhyme all work together to give the reader a clue as to what the mother is called. For example, the calf says of his mother 'she likes to say 'Moo!'' Lloyd responds, 'I understand now. I think that your mama must be a...' I can just hear a class of children yelling, 'COW!' At the end, Lloyd meets up with his llama friend, Llyn, whose mama IS a llama!

This book is about a Llama who goes in search of his mother. He goes around asking different animals if they are his mother, and the other animals say no, i'm some one else's mother. The llama does end up finding his mother. This book could be used to help students write because of the repeating

lines.

This book is amazing and funny for children of all ages. I love the story line of how this llama befriends other animals. It has great rhyme and riddles for children.

This book is best for young children. This a a great book to re aloud to children. The llama asks his friends if their mothers are llama's as well, and comes to find out that they are different types of animals in the world, and not just llamas.

Genre: Fantasy
This is a good example of fantasy because Llamas do not talk but in this rhyming book they do. Little Llama talked to his bat friend Dave, baby swan Fred, and even little seal Clyde. Animals do not have names but they especially do not talk.
Art Media: This book contains water color
Show More
paint and pen outlines. I like it a lot because it gives the story a sweetness and softness that goes nicely with the story. Takes a scary animal like a bat and illustrates it in a way that is fun, friendly, and not scary if you don't like bats.

This book would be very good for 3rd grade and younger. It would good while learning about animals particularly Llamas. It also rhymes so the class can participate.

This short rhyming book shows characteristics of different animals. The baby llama is trying to find his friend that has the same mama as him. All of his friends say no and tell him about their mama. His very last friend he finds they are the same kind of animal so they must have the same mama!

Asking around to find out whose's mama's are llamas, she discovers all sorts of animals. This a simple story of a curious little llama trying to figure out why she is the only llama. A good book for children to use their knowledge and identify the amimals.

This is a good example of fantasy because the animals talk in this book. The setting also seems like it takes place in a world similar to ours, but contains unrealistic elements.
A teacher could use this book in their classroom to teacher children about the some of the different animals that aren't
Show More
as known to children, such as bats, swans, cows, seals, and kangaroos.
The media in this book is oil paints.
The setting is necessary for this story because it takes place in all the habitats that each animal lives. This is needed for the story to build the plot as well.

I like I like this book more than my son and daughter (14 months), though they like it too. It's really fun to read due to the rhymes. It teaches about different animals for when they're older. And it's fun to ad lib with your children's own names.

Genre: I would classify this as modern fantasy because in real life, llamas and other animals do not talk and they do not ask other animals questions in the English language. This is also fantasy because even though the plot is believable, the characters as talking animals with reason, logic, and
Show More
feelings are not realistic.

The media used in this book looks to be watercolor and ink. The colors are blue and green in mostly every picture, and they are blended together in great ways to suggest contrast, lighting, and variety in the shapes and colors of different animals and features of the landscapes in the book. The animals are very realistic to match the written descriptions and it would be easy to follow along and know what each character looks like as they are talking in the story.

An adorable story about a curious llama. The illustrations are beautifully done by Steven Kellogg. A great story for first time readers.

I used to read this all the time when I was young. I loved reading about all of the different animals.

On top of being poetically strong, this book also contains some beautiful illustrations. I was also very pleased to find that the public library carried this book in a large variety of languages, this is always a huge perk for any book from the perspective of a future elementary ESL teacher. I also
Show More
happen to adore llamas and many of the other animals featured in this very mish-mashed collection of the world's wild places, but especially the llamas!

Lloyd the llama is in search of his mother, and asks various friends if THEIR mothers are llamas, too.
LibraryThing member kkcrossley
Matching the baby animals with their mothers. Lloyd llama asks each baby 'is your mama a llama' and the answer back with a rhyme of their own.
LibraryThing member jjuran
This is a very cute rhyming story of a llama asking other animals about their mother. I really like how the answer the animal gives in on the next page so it gives the reader, or the childer being read this story, a chance to make a guess before they are given the answer.
LibraryThing member arielaver
This book has some great rhyming that encourages young readers to make smart predictions while simultaneously teaching animal vocabulary. The pictures are bright and beautiful, and it makes for an excellent shared reading experience.
LibraryThing member jenflock
An enchanting animal guessing game for preschoolers. Lloyd, a baby llama, asks each of his friends, 'Is your mama a llama?,' and all respond in turn with a rhyming description of their mother that is answered on the following page. Young listeners will delight in the playful rhythm of the text, and
Show More
each riddle is sure to result in a resounding chorus of response.
