This is a story about people who no longer read. This book contains alot of colorful imagery. This would be a great book to read to students in an english class to show why reading is so important.

The town has forgotten what books are and instead are obsessed with TV. Throughout the book one little boy discovers the joy of reading from one of the old ladies in the town. Through a series of event the town eventually realizes how much they are missing by not being able to read and not using

books for reading. In the end they finally rebuild the library and everyone began to love books again.

The town of Triple Creek has become obsessed with television except for one person, Eli's Aunt Chip. She doesn't even own a T.V. When Aunt Chip discovers the town no longer uses books for reading, only for propping open doors and fixing fences, she decides she can no longer rest. Aunt Chip then

teaches Eli to read. The other children of the town are amazed that he can read, so now everyone wants to learn too.

In this book, a boy named Eli enjoys visiting his old aunt Chip who loves books and hates TV. Aunt Chip has been in her bed for years, so she has not seen the outside world, but when Eli takes her outside, she sees that books are not being used to read, but instead, used as every other possible

use! She teaches Eli to read, and he in turn teaches his classmates. When the children go around town picking up books, the dam (made out of books) breaks and the they rain all over the town. Soon the adults see the importance in reading, and reading is brought back to the town and the entire town improves. This book shows a funny, far fetched scenario of what would happen if reading was gone!

Everyone in Triple Creek loves TV. They love it so much that they watch TV all of the time and have forgotten what books are for (other than propping open doors). When Eli's Aunt Chip (who took to bed with disgust after the town library was demolished), realizes that Eli can't read, she steps out

of bed and teaches him to read. Eli shares the magic of reading with his friends until something amazing happens.

This is a perfect book for a librarian, reading teacher, or even a social studies teacher wanting to show the positive and negative cosequences of our actions. This story about a town who decides to not read anymore will help children see what a world without books or education can be like. I would

recommend this book as a light-hearted nudge to reluctant readers. This book is a joy to read for pleasure as well.

Who would have thought that TVs would make a difference. Aunt Chip knew that consequences would come once her library shut down because everyone was too busy watching TV instead of reading books! It took only one little boy to start their movement of teaching children and adults to start reading

again. The power of books is intense. People can learn from books, gain ideas and even dreams from stories that they read. Every child should have that great gift of reading because they need to be able to experience all of the lovely things words have to offer! Read to your children this story by Polacco which will help explain to your children why reading is essential and necessary in their lives.

This is a great story to get kids reading. The use of books and Patricia Polacco's characteristic elder role in this story are great. If using this book in the classroom, it would help to teach your students about the value of education.

Although the rest of the residents of the town of Triple Creek had little use for eccentric hermit Charlotte Huck (named in honor of real-life librarian and author, Charlotte S. Huck), Eli loved his "Aunt Chip," and visited her regularly. Having taken to her bed years before in protest, declaring

that "there would be consequences" to the town's decision to tear down the library, in order to construct a massive TV tower, Aunt Chip lived a quiet life with her (adorable!) cats. But when she discovered that the "consequences" included an entire generation of children growing up without the ability to read, she decided that, in this case, discretion was NOT the better part of valor, and set out to do something about it...

Having been raised in a home that, for many years, had no television - a conscious choice on the part of my parents, made in order to encourage me and my sisters to become readers, and to play more outdoors - I am greatly in sympathy with Patricia Polacco's point, in Aunt Chip and the Great Triple Creek Dam Affair, that too much television does indeed bring consequences - of the negative sort. I appreciated the fact that television didn't need to be "done away with" entirely, once the residents of Triple Creek realized how foolish they had been to abandon reading, but was henceforth (as should everything else be) consumed in moderation. Definitely a book to spark discussion, with younger readers, about the importance of books, and the library!

This book would be a good book to teach students how electrics can take over your life. It is great for encouraging students to read more. It would be good to read aloud and it can lead into an activity of creating their own book.

When Eli's Aunt Chip took to her bed, she vowed never to come out. Living in a town of people who watched TV day and night, few could read.

Knowing there would be a consequence of constant tv watching, Aunt Chip gave up! When Eli confessed he did not know how to read, she came out of bed and began a

quest to teach the children of the TV obsessed town how to read.

When a book was taken from the dam that was contained by all the books never read, the town was flooded.

A blessing in disquise, the town's people rebuilt, turned off the tv and learned to read.

video games and phones. Polacco writes a book providing a good lesson to remind kids why reading is important.
