Good ol' George & Martha, the seemingly platonic hippos who live & play together. In this one, the origin of George's fabulous gold tooth is explained.

Five stories about George and Martha, who are “two great friends.” Fun and sweet, no great dramatic moments, just quiet stories mostly about coming to new understandings with a person you care about.

This book tells a variety of silly stories about two friends, George and Martha. The material in this book is light and humorous. It also would be a good book to work on reading fluently and comprehending the context.

I LOVE stories about George and Martha. Their friendship is sweet, kind, and sometimes challenging--as so many friendships are. James Marshall has a knack for writing gently funny narratives.

George and Martha are two hippopotamus best friends that have comical interactions. Many times George acts inappropriately and Martha has to explain to him social norms. George doesn't enjoy split pea soup and learns that Martha is fine with him explaining that instead of forcing himself to eat it.

In another tale George peaks in on Martha bathing. Martha has to explain privacy and how peeping is inappropriate.

This book is a picture book about two delightful hippos. They play prank on each other. George started the game, and Martha decided to scare him off in some way. George couldn't concentrate on the things he was doing, because he thought that at any moment Martha is going to scare her. They went to

the amusement park, to the tunnel of love. The exact moment that George thought Martha has forgotten about the prank, she scared him off.
The story is beautifully done, and the illustrations add to the story. I love the cover of the book, which is attractive to the young reader's eyes. More importantly, this story is about two hippos close relationship, which can be a good subject for the beginner readers.

This is a lovely book about best friends that are hippos. It shows the relationships of two friends who are always together but also need time alone. Just like children will figure out by reading this story best friends are always there for you.

Five very short stories about friendship. Two lovable hippopatamuses go through the lessons we all have to learn about being friends. Absurd but somehow realistic, this book has entertained several generations of readers.

Here are five stories about two of the greatest friends ever to grace a picture book. George and Martha, Jim Marshall's dearly beloved, wise, and wickedly funny hippos teach each other the importance of honesty, companionship, discretion, humility, and consolation in this classic.

Very funny! Little lessons on morality and friendship. Pictures are goofy and earnest. Maybe best not waisted on the kids, adults will enjoy these just as well ...

Do you always tell your best friend the truth? In the children’s book, George and Martha, written and illustrated by James Marshall come a live two hippos who are best friends. Through five short stories we discover the many lessons and truths about being someone’s friend, whether it is because

of pea soup, the will to fly, a mirror, a tub, or a tooth. This fictional book could be used in a classroom from Pre-K up to second grade with the focus and question of how to be someone’s friend and what that might mean, as well as being a funny read aloud. This book really captured my attention at the end of every story when I realized what lesson I was learning without even knowing it!

I liked George and Martha as a free reading book. There are five different short stories in this book and each story has a different main idea. I like the fact that there are multiple stories in the book which gives children the ability to choose which story they want to read. I also like that the
Show More
stories are short and do not have too many words on one page. This makes it easier for younger readers to follow along. Finally, I believe the main idea of all the stories is the friendship between George and Martha and to show children how to treat their friends.
