The latest in the Pigeon series this book is quite relateable for those who REALLY want something, but when nose to nose with the new responsibility, discover they would like something different. Unfortunately the style and story is very similar to the other books in the series, and it a bit too
Show More
predictable. The best thing about the book is the contest it created -- and the opportunity for children to guess what the Pigeon would want.

I mean, they just set such a high standard, really....

The thing is, my nieces don't find the jokes in this one that funny. I mean, they get them, but only once I kinda wink at them and highlight that "hey, that was just a joke", and it's not... that worth it.

Still a good book, just not as great as
Show More
the others.

oh my gosh, what a cute book. this pigeon really wants a puppy and he tells you over and over again in this book, he also lists reasons why he wants it and why he thinks he should have it. in the end he gets a little surprise, which i find the funniest part. i smiled the whole way through this book

and the kids at my daycare love it too. the simple pictures went with the big bold sentence on the page or on the opposite page. the book is big and wide and easy to read.

This book won in an election vs. Froggy Gets Dressed. It is great for younger el, and I loved it myself.

I thought this was a really cute book. I've seen the pigeon books before but never read one so I had to pick this one up. It's a story about a pigeon that really, really wants a puppy. he finally gets one and it wasn't quite what he expected so he then decides he wants a walrus. The illustartions
Show More
are really cute and I think this is a great book for really young readers. The words are really big and they aren't too hard so it's a great learning to read book.

THe pigeon wants a puppy this time and will do anything to get one. He is very persistant. Allows kids to interact with the book

This is great as an interactive read aloud for primary kids. As in other Pigeon books, kids know something unexpected awaits, and they are not disappointed. As for the greatest strength, it’s a tough call! The uncomplicated text is so precise in expressing the character and nature of pigeon. And,
Show More
the simple kid-like illustrations are so expressive the reader is readily drawn into pigeon’s world.

The pigeon wants a pet puppy, but he doesn't quite understand the work that's involved. He thinks that he should give it water and sunlight just like he would a plant! He begs for the puppy and thinks of all the fun things that he could do with it, like ride it or take it to play a game of tennis.
However, when he gets his wish, he realizes just how big and scary and slobbery the dog is, and he changes his mind. He no longer wants a dog...he wants a walrus!

This book is about a Pigeon who wants a puppy. He tells the reader multiple times that he really wants a puppy. He explains the care that a puppy needs and that he is willing to provide for a puppy. It isn't until he meets a puppy that he realizes he doesn' t after all want a puppy. He wants a

walrus.

The once again needy pigeon wants a puppy! He explains his reasons that are completely hilarious and have nothing to do with caring for a puppy and once he sees what a puppy is really like, he quickly changes his mind! Definitely a fun text that I will have in my classroom!

A fun follow up to Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! in which Pigeon decides that he really wants a puppy. Be careful what you wish for because when Pigeon finally gets a puppy it is not at all what he expected! Children aged 3-6 will enjoy this funny story.

Excellent for read alouds, the pigeon talks to the reader/audience.

This book is a very easy read, and would be great for a first reader book. the author shows how badly the pigeon wants a puppy, but once the pigeon actually sees how big and sloppy the puppy is he changes his mind. He now wants a walrus!

The Pigeon is determined to get a puppy and is not going to take no for an answer. The Pigeon finally gets a puppy and realizes that maybe it’s not such a great idea after all. He finally decides that a dog is too scary and too big to have and decides to want another animal without realizing that
Show More
it is way bigger than a puppy.

This is a cute book about a Pigeon who wants a puppy. When the want becomes a reality, the pigeon did not know what it was in for. It seems like alot of kids and adults can relate to the pigeon. We wish for something so badly but then when we get it, it not like we thought it would be, we change
Show More
our mind and starting want other things.

This story is bout a Pigeon that wants a puppy. He says all kinds of things to get the puppy he wants.

The pigeon allows children to be the adult. To tell the pigeon he cannot have something because he isn't ready for it. Even though he is grumpy and does not agree with you at first, he eventually realizes that you were right, he is not ready for this responsibility.

This book I would only use for fun. It is very good for children to read who are just staring because it has big text and big pictures. It is a short book about how the pigeon wants a puppy, but then gets a puppy and decides that he doesn't want it any more.

average didn't really like it

The Pigeon wants a Puppy! Really, he does. After politely introducing himself, he will tell you exactly that. And then he will proceed to get himself very, very excited about it. And he runs through the gamut of emotions, including obstinate! While he is busy proving his little self to the reader
Show More
and dreaming of puppies, and even having a tantrum...he doesnt notice the big, scary, hairy, tooth-filled, barking, snarling, intimidating MONSTER that has just arrived.....oh wait, its just a puppy. Maybe he will reconsider after all....

Mo Willem's pigeon is back! This time he wants a puppy! Or does he really?
Mo Willem's books are hilarious. My students laugh at the pigeon in this one as he tries to convince them how well he will take care of a puppy if he gets one. Cute pictures go along with the silliness of this book.

Silly Pigeon, I wonder if I was this bad when I begged my parents for a puppy.
LibraryThing member aloupe
I think these books are really fun because it speaks directly to the child. I would read it to pre-k up to 1st grade. It addresses what every kid at one point wants, which is a puppy. The children will be interactive with this book and start to say no to the pigeon, and will most likely realize
Show More
that they say the same things as the pigeon.

Pigeon is back! and this time he wants a puppy! can't get enough of this silly pigeon and his hilarious personality. great little story that will be sure to humor kids of all ages.

The Pigeon is back, and this time he really, really, REALLY wants a puppy. In traditional Pigeon style, he begs and he pleads, and even throws a temper tantrum. But what will happen when Pigeon finally gets his wish and gets a puppy all of his own?

The fourth book in Mo Willem's Pigeon does not
Show More
disappoint – complete with witty prose, colourful illustrations, and incredible interactivity. Great for children 3-6 years old, who, too, might use Pigeon's tactics on their parents!

The Pigeon Wants A Puppy was named 2009 Children's Choice Book Awards for “Kindergarten to Second Grade Book of the Year”. It even was a featured title on Oprah's Book Club: Kids Reading List in the summer of 2008.
