Henry finds a cat outside and it becomes part of the family. When its owner comes, they miss it, but feel a little bit better with a present of dog bones and a police badge for Mudge and Henry.

This is such a fun and loving book. Henry and his best friend (dog) mudge fall in love with this stray cat that arrives on their front porch. Henry's parents do not want to keep this shabby cat, so they made posters for a lost cat. The cat's owner found him and took the cat back, but it left Henry

and Mudge sad. The nice owner who was a police officer knew that they loved the cat, so he sent a present (bones and a badge) to Mudge and Henry from the cat Dave. Great read aloud and easy to follow!

The book begins with Henry’s family finding a stray cat on the front porch and temporarily taking it. Due to the fact they want to give the cat away to a good home, they post flyers all around the community. However, to their surprise a policeman comes to the door claming the cat is his lost pet.

Therefore, they return the animal to his rightful owner. But, Henry and Mudge are left feeling sad until a present arrives and reminds them of the great deed they did.

a second grade chapter book. The story is about a dog and the bond he forms with a lost cat. The cat and dog become great pals. When the owner claims the cat, the family is lonely without him. The story shows an unlikely friendship between them. A great way to start young readers on chapter books.

I have a lot of respect for Henry's mom. In some ways I want to be her, with a big porch & yard & trees, and long dresses and bare feet - but I don't want a huge slobbery dog, thank you.
