First written in 1946 this story is so delightful and appealing. The little fur family live in a warm wooden tree. After a day playing outside and exploring the world the little fur child arrives home ‘And there was his father who put him to bed and they tucked him in bed all soft and warm and

they held his paw and they sang him a song’. The story is told in sweet rhythmic verses that feel really comforting along with Garth Williams lovely illustrations evocative of a happy home life.

My copy of this book is extra small and has a furry cover, to match the Little Fur Family themselves. This story does not have tons of content, but children delight to read through the miniature sized book to read about a very sweet miniature sized family.

This is one of my toddler daughter's favorites. She loves the page where the Little Fur Child picks up the tiny tiny fur animal, especially the line about "kissed him on his little fur nose." I always read this section in a squeaky tiny voice and we have to reread that page at least 4 times before

we can move on:) A very warm and delightful book that truly reaches the heart of children.

(easy) Fur child spends a day out in his wild wood, his world - making discoveries about the beauty of nature around him. He catches a fish, a ladybug and an itty bitty fur creature that looks just like him. He has the power to do them harm, but that thought never even occurs to him as he just

observes them with wonderment and love and releases them back into the wild. Fur child returns home to his own warmth and security much like the critters he caught and enjoys his supper, his parents and a goodnight song. As a child this was one of my favorite books, I don't know exactly why, and the pictures are what I remember most. I particularly remember the picture of the itty bitty fur baby, and I spent hours drawing little fur babies of my own. I can only assume the feeling of security that this book perpetuates is what drew me to it as a child. As security is very important to a child's well being and development, one could understand why young readers would enjoy reading or listening to this book. There really is no conflict in this book, though there are characters and a mild story line.

Seriously? Furry little animals wearing fur? Don't folks know that fur comes from dead furry little animals? Hannibal Lector for the diaper set??

Too bad. The art style is lovely, the text is graceful, the 'plot' is simply charming. If only it were actually Little Wool Family.""

A little fur child’s mother sends him off into the forest to play. He meets other furless animals that he catches and releases, and he’s finally overjoyed to find a smaller fur child, which he also catches and releases. After a long day of exploring the outdoors, his mother welcomes him home

with a hot meal and tucks him into bed.

I’m sure I must have read this book at some point in my childhood, but it didn’t make an impression on me. It gives me a melancholy feeling, and I’m not sure that’s what the author intended. The fur child seemed lonely.
