Children's Picture Book

This book is a gem, I love it when he tries to convince his family it's him. He flip flops and he flop flips, he roles over and he plays dead. He danced and he sings. It's so funny.

This classic is great in the classroom, especially when I told my first graders it's the only way I ever learned to take a bath.

This book has passed the two-generation test. I used to read it to my three children when they were young. Now my three-year-old grandson is asking me to read it to him repeatedly.

This is a very cute story of a white dog with black spots who doesn't want to bathe so he turns into a black dog with
Show More
white spots. You'll have to read this book to see how he gets so dirty and what he must do in order for his family to allow him to stay in his own home.

Book Summary: This is a story about a dog that does not like to get baths. One day the dog, Harry, decides to bury the scrubbing brush and run away from home. While away he plays and becomes so dirty that he is then a black dog with white spots instead a white dog with black spots. Once Harry
Show More
decides to return home his family does not recognize him. Therefore, he uses many techniques to try to help them realize who he is under all the dirt.

Content Summary: This books can be used to discuss many topics with children. It is great for showing children how humans and animals have the same needs. Also, it can be used to show children why running away from the fears, like Harry running away from a bath, is not the way they should handle things. Last, it can be used in reading to work on students' comprehension and vocabulary.

This is an absolutely great book. Part of the Harry the dog series that were written decades ago. The story is still charming as are the drawings. Kids will love it and keep asking you for a dog of their own afterward. Another books that has passed the test of time.

I think this is a perfect picture book. I remember loving the story when I was little, and I love it just as much now, if not more. There’s a clear initial problem: Harry likes everything, except getting a bath. So he buries the scrubbing brush and runs away and has a wonderful day getting dirty,
Show More
but then when he goes back home (because of course he hasn’t really run away), his family doesn’t recognize him. And when all hope seems lost, he remembers the scrubbing brush and digs it up and runs into the house and jumps in the tub and begs for a bath. And so the thing he hates is the thing that saves him. And everyone is happy. And then the last page delivers a delicious last little kick, as Harry dreams of “how much fun it had been getting dirty” and he sleeps so soundly that he doesn’t even feel the scrubbing brush he has hidden under his pillow. His attempt to solve his initial problem has led to a greater problem which he finally solves by accepting the thing he was trying to avoid in the first place. And then comes full circle, hiding the brush again. It’s just so satisfying in every way.

Harry hates a bath so much he buries the bath brush and runs away from home. By the time he returns he is so dirty he has turned from a white dog with black spots to a black dog with white spots. His family doesn't recognize him until he actually convinced them to give him a bath.

This one holds a
Show More
special place for me as a rare book that still exists in my childhood memories. It's a particularly nice memory because I related so strongly to Harry. I was a very dirty little child.

It was based on my own nostalgia that we bought it for my 2-yr-old son. He likes it, but what surprised me was my 4-yr-old daughter's reaction. She loves it, and tells me every time I pick it out, "Dad, I really like that one." I can't think of any other book she says that about.

By far my favorite Harry the Dog book! Like most kids, they do not like to be bathed. I remember always laughing when Harry tries to convince his parents that it is him even though he went from a white dog with black spots to a black dog with white spots. I was sad that his parents did not
Show More
recognize him. It always made me giggle!

Harry was a white dog with black spots who liked everything, except getting a bath. Harry hates baths so much he even buried the scrubbing brush. Harry gets dirty playing in the streets and his family doesn't know who he is until he gets a bath at the end! I loved this book as a child and would
Show More
recommend it to any 1st grader.

I had to re-read this book because I remembered it from when I was very young. This is a cute book about a white dog with black spots who doesn't want a bath so he runs away. He gets into a coal shute and turns into a black dog with white spots. He makes it back home and allows his family to bathe

him and falls sound asleep, happy to be home. I think this is a great story for really young kids. It's a fun story with great illustrations. It's also a good book for kids to read to kids. I remember reading it to my younger sister when I was learning to read. It's an old favorite that I definitely would include in my library.

The book was one of my absolute favorites as a kid, so it tickles me to no end that my three-year-old adores it as much as I did.
LibraryThing member khand
This book is an exciting book about all the places a dog goes to get dirty and what he does to get clean.

My copy says 1956 but this looks like it! Funny story of a dog who likes to be dirty, my kids love the illustrations most-the seem charcoal dark, and remind me of cartoon, but they are certainly full pages to look at!

Pre k to 1st Grade
This book is about a beloved family dog who goes on an adventure out of his own yard, ends up not looking like himself and has to convince his family who he is.
Great for an animal theme unit. It could also be used for a health and hygiene unit.

I can actually remember selecting this book from the library as a child. Harry the Dirty Dog is a carefree character, getting into all sorts of mischief, while still remaining lovable. This book will bring a smile to anyone's face. Highly recommended.

A dog decides to have an adventure around the neighborhood instead of getting bathed. He gets very dirty playing around the city and when he comes home his family doesn't recognize him. He decides he wants a bath so they will know it is him. I love this book for students or anyone with a dog
Show More
because it is written from the dog's point of view which is humorous. Plus it is an easy read for young students.

Harry is a dog who hates baths and loves getting dirty, so he runs away when his owner tries to give him a bath. It is only when he comes back so dirty that his owner doesn't recognize him that he realizes that being dirty is not such a great thing.
