Absolutely love this book. The progession allows kids to think whats going to come next by looking at the pictures. This is the perfect book to read on a rainy day.

“The Napping House” is a great children’s story with beautiul pictures. The rhyming words in this story repeats. The story consists of a cozy bed, a snoring granny, a dreaming child, a dozing dog, a snoozing cat, a slumbering mouse, and a wakeful flea. All of these things are asleep until the
Show More
flea bits the mouse that sets of a series of events and everyone wakes up. When everyone wakes up, they all go outside and play. This is an awesome book for kindergarten students.

This book is cute, but I would suggest a larger version of this book instead of just a small board book. It's hard to see the illustrations. Ali loves the picture of the cat getting scared. The repeditive text, and continual motion of the people and animals work very well together.

The Napping House, by Audrey Wood, illustrations by Don Wood. Harcourt, 1984.

The Napping House is a thoroughly enjoyable read. Though the text and illustrations could conceivably stand alone, they almost work in counterpoint. With the text repeating to slow the reading, the cumulative aspect of the
Show More
story causing pauses through its repetition, the illustrations provide an even incremental movement of action where the narrative offers only a tableau of before fleabite and after. The music of the work is a slow crecendo that adds an extra piece to the phrase: each addition is given its glory as the comic juxtaposition of alert, awake and practically flying creatures with contentedly sleeping other creatures. In the text, each being presented is given a quality of sleep – napping, dozing, snoring and then an action that erases that quality. Although the board book edition is not suitable for the format – being merely shrunk and not re-formatted to provide larger text or higher contrasting images, the larger work is of great quality. Like other picture books, calamity strikes but the final scene is one of bliss. Even when the bed is broken the granny is smiling and laughing.

The storyline runs the same as those classics of children's literature and song - "This is the house that Jack Built", "I knew an old lady who swallowed a fly", "The green grass grows all around", where you add one element on to the verse and recite the whole list each time around. It's especially
Show More
fun when you go into absurdities - could the granny really support that much weight?

The artwork is wonderful. You start off with bland, dark, grey colors, which gradually become brighter once the flea bites the mouse. And (to my joy) you can see the flea and mouse in every picture except the first, which only shows the house. It's... good. I could go on, but then I'll start to babble.

This is a story about a house, a sleeping house. Actually, it is a cumulative tale about what goes on in a house during a rainy day. It is the interaction between people and nature that keeps the story moving.
I love this book! There is actually no need for words, the pictures speak so loudly. The
Show More
colors are reflective of the mood of the story, you can almost feel the rain slowing down and the sun coming out as each character begins to wake.
After reading this story, a mini-lesson on cause and effect could be introduced. Then as a group activity, have the students rewrite the story and change how it ends by changing the actions and reactions of the different characters.
During a unit on families, this book could be read at the writing center. The students would then create a story about what their families do on rainy days.

On a cozy rainy night, in this cozy house, in a cozy bed sleeps a flea, on top of a mouse, on top of a cat, on top of a dog, on top of a child, on top of a snoring granny. Don Wood’s amazing talent displays how cozy the bed is, making the reader ready to jump in himself/herself. As the morning

arrives the change in light provides clues to the beautiful promising day.

This book is very enjoyable and creates a cozy little atmosphere. It is nap time in the Napping House and everyone falls asleep one by one, on top of each other no less. When a wakeful flea bites the slumbering mouse, the whole lot is awaken and even the bed is broken. Then, no one is sleeping in

the napping house.

This is more of a Kindergarten or First grade book that is very interesting. It keeps children drawn into the story line by building on each page. You almost feel as if you are in the napping house with this group of people and animals!
The plot keeps building and building until it all comes
Show More
unravelling in the end. Overall it is a very funny, interesting and attention catching book.

Such the cutest book ever! Great for beginning readers! The whole book is repeating itself the whole time, so it is easy for children to guess what is coming. Also, the characters in the book are what children can relate too. The story is about a house were everyone only sleeps and it goes on it
Show More
say the granny sleeps on this bed, then the child joins, then the dog, then the cat, then the mouse, and then the flea. And without the flea the whole house would sleep forever more than likely, but the flea wakes up the cat who wakes the dog and so on and so on. Children could relate to this and follow along so easliy. At funschool.kaboose.com they have rhyming games for kids which will also help them with reading.

This is a book about a napping house. The book is repetitive easy for children to read together. The book has many characters a grandma, child, cat, dog, and flea. Throughout the book each is woken up because they were sleeping in a bed on top of eachtoher. They each woke up and finally it was not
Show More
a napping house anymore. It was a fun house playing outside. This book is great for children waking up from a nap or for children relaxing after p.e.

A grandma and her grandson go to sleep and during the night, more and more animals join them. It is a really good book to use for sequencing and summarizing.

This book is repetitive with a chain reaction. The story starts of a Grandma sleeping on a bed then a child, dog, cat, mouse and a flea. The chain reactions starts with the flea biting the mouse then a event of reactions begin with it ending breaking the bed. Students enjoy the repetitive reactions

on each page to stay engaged.

This book is incredibly cute and a majority of elementary school students would think it was hilarious. It is about a house where everyone is sleeping until one little thing goes wrong and everyone wakes up. There is a lot of repetition in the story and very colorful, cute pictures. I would
Show More
recommend this story to younger elementary school students around kindergarten or first grade.

The napping house is a quiet hosue where everyone is sleeping. After a series of events, there ends up being more than enough characters on "Grannys" bed. These consist of a flea, a mouse, cat, dog, child, and granny. While everyone is sleeping peacefully, the flea bites the mouse, and a domino
Show More
effect ends up happening. This results in everyone now being awake and a broken bed. The dark silent napping house evolves into a loud, colorful house where everyone is up and eager for the day.

This book is for PreK- 2nd grade. It follows the adventures of what can happen when too many people sleep under the same roof. I especailly loved how the book was easy to follow for students. The pictures are literally some of the best I have ever seen. Overall, great read!

The Napping House is a beautifully illustrated story that begins with the rain, a house, a child, and a sleeping granny. As the story progresses through each page, the entire household of characters joins the child and the sleeping granny for a nap. After everyone has finally settled down, the
Show More
smallest little thing sets the whole household into a hilarious uproar. This story has repeating rhymes that even the youngest listener can quickly pick up and learn.

This is one of my favorite books. The rhythm of the rhymes and the colors used in the illustrations draws and keeps the attention of all readers/listeners. This is a favorite in our classroom, as it is requested over and over again.

An extension activity that I have used after reading this book is to have the children write and illustrate their own story about their grandparents/family. I provide heavy white construction paper and paint. After the children paint a series of pictures (# depending on age), I write down exactly what they say. Then we bind the pages together to make their own book, which we add to our classroom library for all to share. Another extension activity is brainstorming more rhyming words that we heard in the story, and making up other silly sentences/stories.

The Napping House is a interesting book that will keep students on their toes. It will keep them guess and wanting to read more. Once they grab the concept, they will be excited to see what will happen next.

This book is about a house where everyone naps all of the time. Then there is quite a surprise at the end the will leave the characters not so tired anymore.

This book uses beautiful pastel colors and detailed illustration throughout the book. This book revolves a lot around sleeping and napping. This book may be useful to read right before a "rest time" in a classroom. There is some good vocabulary words in the book such as "dozing."

This book is about a house, a napping house where everyone is sleeping. In the house their is a snoring granny, a dreaming child, a dozing dog, a snoozing cat, a slumbering mouse, and a wakeful flea. Everyone is piled sleeping on one another in one cozy bed. The wakeful flea biutes the mouse, who
