Let's note first that this book isn't actually intended as a readaloud book, nor is it intended for children much younger than the age of six.

The format of the book reflects this. It's a bit long for toddlers (who aren't known for having great attention spans), and the different spreads are
Show More
disconnected - when a kid is at the age where they struggle to read "All, Ball, We All Play Ball", the last thing they need to worry about is what they read two pages before!

Can it be used as a readaloud? No doubt! But don't be disappointed if it doesn't work for you and your kid that way.

That said, this is a wonderful early reader. Simple rhyming text, with the main words in large print at the top of the page; and really funny illustrations.

I really suggest this one.

If I had to buy a single book for a 3 year-old, I'd choose this Dr. Suess classic. Itss rhymes and repetition turned millions onto reading the English language.

The picture book that I reviewed was “Hop on Pop” and I really like this book. It’s about opposite and uses prepositions and rhyming words to tell a story.
I actually didn’t pick this book my Godson did because he liked the cover. When I began to read the book I loved it because how the
Show More
words rhyme and the illustrations were very nice. I think this book is for babies and Kindergartener. I enjoyed reading it to my Godson and his cousins’ and they enjoyed listening to it.
An extension that I think will be great for my class will be to go over some more opposite words and also play a game with some words and ask them to think of some words that rhyme together.

A very fun book. It's a bit long to get through with my 14 month olds, but generally they really enjoy the bright colors and rhyming words. I imagine they'll continue to like it for a couple of years, and that it will be a good early reading book.

I don't really know WHY I like it, but I like it.

One of my favorite Dr. Seuss books. This is a good book about rhyming random words together; but this is a book young children would find fun and interesting.

Hop on Pop is a great book that the students would love for many reasons. The Pictures help with the words on the page and this book encourages students to read. The big print makes it easy for children to help if being read to. The students would love to hear the rhyming in the book, especially if
Show More
it was read fast. This book is great for beginner readers because it uses word families throughout the book. The word families and short words make it a good book for building confidence in young readers also.

I love this book. This book is good for children who are just starting out or who need a little help. The book repeats words, have pictures that can help the children read just by looking at them, the font is pretty big and easy to read. This book is also a rhyming book. It can really help children
Show More
to learn lots of words that look the same. I would recommend giving this the small children. I know they wouold love it! The pictures are so bright and really funny.

This is great book to help children learn about rhyming. It is repetitive and allows the children to predict what is going to happen next. It teaches children many site words. As the story progress, more and more rhyming words are added.

This book is such a great beginner book. It really helps with teaching kids to read. Dr Seuss creates easy rhumes to help learning and to inspire children to read. The illustrations are wild and fun in this book, which is something that is important in order to keep the kids attention in reading
Show More
this book. The rhymes are silly and fun, and this book is a widely recognized favorite of many elementary teachers.

This is another classic Dr. Seuss book. It does not have a storyline - instead, it simply rhymes words and uses pictures to illustrate what is going on in the very simple sentence. For example - CUP PUP, Pup in cup. The picture shows a puppy in a cup. This is good to teach children prepositions,
Show More
such as on, in, into, under, below, etc.

The illustrations are classic Seuss characters. They show a lot of emotion and action in every picture. The text is still in it's own white space away from the illustrations.

A great children's introduction to reading.

I learned to read with this classic and so did my own children. It's still one of the best books available for fun phonics work with early readers.

*Concept* This book does a great job of teaching readers about simple rhyming words. I like this book specifically because it places an emphasis on word families. I also like that there is a progression in the story that connects the previous rhymes to new rhymes. The main point of this story is to
Show More
teach children about rhyming and word families and it does a great job of doing both.

Reading Level: 1.1

This book would be great for kindergarteners or beginning readers. The words are rhyming, simple, and the sentences are creative and short. Dr. Seuss writes engaging books and I think it would be great to kick start a child's reading enthusiasm.

This has got to be one of the best books for small children. It is a fast read with not many words on a page. Kids love this book!
LibraryThing member ezwicky
We have the board-book edition, which is edited. This is probably good, as it is fairly mind-numbing to read, and is saved only by the Seussian humor.
