The Cat in the Hat Comes Back is a childrens classic that I believe should be read to all students. It expands their imagination and also shows them they need to do what their parents tell them to do.

Summery: The Cat in the Hat is back up to his old tricks. While Sally and her brother are shoveling snow, the Cat goes into their home and takes a bath. He leaves a pink ring in the tub that he wipes up with the children's mother's dress, which ends up then on the walls, and then on their father's

shoes, and so on and so on until the pink spot ends up all over the yard. The Cat brings out all of his friends from inside his hat--cats A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z, and finally the smallest of them all, Voom. While all the others only make the mess worse, Voom gets it all clean in time for the children's mother to return.

Reflection: What a cute story! I think this is my favorite Seuss book so far. I can't help but laugh out loud reading this book. I was a bit of a trouble-maker growing up, and can relate to the Cat. I would do something I knew I'd get in trouble for and try to fix it, only to have the "solution" make the problem worse. If only I'd had a Voom...

Extension Ideas: I would use this book to get the children interested in writing poetry. I'd have the children work in groups to create a short poem. For a craft idea, the kids could make their own "Cat Hat" out of paper, and wear it while they share their group's poem with the class.

This book is about the Cat in the Hat coming back. The children are supposed to be shoveling snow, but the Cat in Hat makes a pink ring around the tub that needs to be cleaned up. He cannot clean it himself so he gets his help from Cat A, B, C, D, E, F, G ,H, I, J, K, L, M, O,P,Q,R,S,T,U,V,W,X,Y,

and Z. Cat Z has something called Voom to clean the big pink mess up.

I love Dr. Seuss. When reading this I was entertained and anxious to see what the Cat in the Hat was going to do next.

This story could be used to talk about the Alphabet or during Dr. Seuss week.

This was a book about the return of everyone’s favorite Cat in the Hat. He returns on a snowy day to Sally and her brother’s house while they were shoveling snow. He wreaks havoc on their house, making messes, and then cleaning them. As he cleans one mess, he makes another. With the help of

some friends, he gets all the messes cleaned up and leaves the children’s home.

This book was funny. It was fun to read. I liked the rhyme scheme this book used. I think this book would be very easy for children to read. I like how Dr. Seuss incorporated the alphabet into this book.

I would use this book to teach younger children the alphabet. It is a clever way to read to them and teach them vital life skills at the same time. I would also use this book to teach older children how to use rhyme schemes.

The Cat in the Hat Comes Back by Dr. Seuss is about two kids that are outside shoveling snow, so the cat skis, right in the door and offers to help Sally and her brother but he just wants a soak in the tub and eats some cake from the fridge. When the

cat took his bath he leaves a pink ring around the tub. So begins a sequential adventure in cleaning, wherein the stain is transferred from dress to wall to shoes to rug in the hall. But the pink stain is everywhere, he gets help from his friends the little alphabet cats. All of the little cats made this situation worse except for one, Voom , the smallest cat of them all. Voom is the only cat that cleans everything before the children’s mother got back.

I liked this book a lot because it had several engaging components. First, the plot was relatable to readers because it started out with two children outside together. If students read “The Cat in the Hat”, they would also enjoy this book because they would already have knowledge about the plot

and characters and be more likely to read it. However, readers would still enjoy the book because young children love animals, so to create a talking cat as the main character would instantly draw readers in. Second, the illustrations are full of action, color, and animation. They supplement the story line and allow readers to fully experience a crazy story about a cat messing up their entire house. Next, the writing is very simple, yet catchy due to the rhyming. For example, one page reads,” Then that cat went right in! He was up to no good! So I rain in after as fast as I could!” Students are able to use not only context clues, but rhyme to figure out some of the words which would encourage them to be fluent readers. Finally, this book subtly includes a lesson about the alphabet. The Cat in the Hat pulls out his little helpers, little Cats A-Z, to help clean up the mess he made. This supplements what students are learning about letters in the alphabet and adds a different dimension to the details of the story. The central message of this story is that teamwork is important when accomplishing things.

This was my favorite Dr. Seuss book when I was a kid. As a parent with a son learning how to read, I am even more astounded at what the author was able to accomplish with simple one syllable words and perfect meter.

The story of two children at home when the cat in the hat returns for a visit. A humorous story with the cat messing up the house, and just as quickly cleaning everything before the mother returns. Good book to teach poetry and words that rhyme.

Sally and her brother are shoveling snow, when who should appear on the scene but that rascally Cat in the Hat. The kids know better this time, though; they warn the Cat away, because they are too busy to play. The Cat strolls into their house anyway. He decides to eat pink cake while taking a bath

with the faucet and shower running. Sally's brother runs in and discovers that the Cat has left an ugly pink ring in the tub. Of course, the Cat in the Hat always has an answer. He'll just clean the tub with their mother's white dress. Then he has to clean the dress with their father's white shoes, and the shoes with the white rug, and the madness continues until the snow is completely stained pink. What will the Cat in the Hat do about that?

The Cat still has a few tricks up his sleeve, or his hat, as the case may be. With the help of little cats A through Z, he cleans away all the pink and wanders away, exhorting the kids to call on him if they ever need help with pink spots. The story is comical, and told with Seuss's flair for rhyme and zaniness. Everything works out in the end, thanks to (and no thanks to) the pesky Cat in the Hat. I like this story, although I think the first Cat in the Hat book is better, and I have a problem with the fact that the little cats use guns to shoot the pink snowballs. At least they are only cap guns, but I still don't like that message. My girls enjoy both books equally, and I know that the linguistic gymnastics and silly story line are the main draw. Seuss was a master, and his books always please.
