My daughters love this book, and after reading it to them countless times, I know the reason that it is a classic in the picture book genre. The story is simple but powerful. A baby bird cracks open its egg, at the moment when his mom has gone out to find food. The baby bird flaps and falls out of

its nest, and sets off on a mission to find his mother. He asks a cat, a dog, a cow, and even starts asking boats and planes, all with no success. He finally asks snort (a power shovel) and the machine lifts the bird high in the air. The baby realizes that the snort is not his mother, either, and as he starts to panic, the snort deposits him safely back in the nest. Fortunately, a bird arrives at that moment as well, and he finally finds his mother.

The story is wonderful for read alouds. The reader can ask her audience the same question the baby bird asks everyone he meets - is that his mother? Also, children can identify all the animals and vehicles, and have fun making snort noises for the powerful machine. I love listening to my younger daughter deliver a deep snort sound. The repetitive text and the seeking plot create a story that allows even very young readers to join in the reading. Illustrations are simple but endearing, and the expressions on the baby bird's face bring him to life and inspire sympathy in the reader. A wonderful book, that was popular back when I was a child, and is still drawing eager young readers today.

There are several reasons why I like this book. First, I enjoy the organization of the plot. After the baby bird wakes up, the series of events he encounters are not only funny, but practical. He begins on land where he finds other animals. After the animals, he begins looking elsewhere like boats

and planes. This then leads to the crain, which then puts the bird back in it's nest. I like how this element brings the story full circle. The second reason I like this book is for its illustrations. More specifically the characters facial expression. For example, while searching for his mother, baby bird looks sad. The other animals look confused as to why a bird is asking if she is his mother. Finally, when baby bird is reunited with his mother they are both smiling with joy. The overall message of this story is even when your scared and lonely, things will always get better.

This is a cute tale of how a mother bird leaves her egg inside the nest. while she is off looking for food, the egg hatches and the bird can not find its mother. The bird ask several animals, "Are you my mother" , and also different objects until finally it reaches it mother! Great story...

I remembered this book from my own childhood and had to get it for my son. It is a great book for young children who will enjoy following the baby bird along on his journey to find his mother. The book is also educational as it teaches little ones to match up the baby bird to the right animal.

This book is an endearing fantasy. Since the bird cannot really talk and the things he runs into along his journey are not ordinarily run into in normal bird encounters, which then in fact makes it a fantasy. The only problem is the book could confuse a child as to whether the book is fantasy or

not simply because it is not completely obvious that the bird could not run into these things, which in turn gave it a rating of three stars. The plot is well thought through, but sometimes it seems a little redundant.

This book is about a mother bird who is sitting on her eggs and feels that the egg is about to hatch. So she goes to find the baby something to eat before it hatches, but while she is gone the baby bird hatches out of the egg. The bird wants to find its mother so he remembers he cant fly and falls

down and begins walking. He runs upon different animals and ask if they are his mother and they all reply with no. He is determined that he has a mother so he continues his journey and ask the same question to a car and then he runs into an excavator and realized its not his mother and that he was in bad trouble. The excavator puts the baby bird back on its nest and the mother comes back and the bird tells her about all his adventures.

An American friend give this book to my son, this might be our first collection of the American children literature. We love it! Good story, vivid pictures! You know what, we have a similar story in our language, but it is about a tadpole looking for his mother, the frog.

This is a classic early reader, very simple and repetitive for young children. It's a bit long for toddlers, and some preschoolers might find the subject matter too frightening (being lost, not knowing where your mama is). However, I still recommend having this book in your library - if it's too
