If my library were for myself alone, I would only have one book of Greek mythology: Edith Hamilton's "Mythology". But I have children, so I also want to have the D'aulaires book on my shelf. This book is a complete survey of Greek mythology, adorned with wonderfully engaging illustrations. Even

though it's written for kids, it was a delight to page through and read. I would recommend it for any child's library. I may have to see about getting a copy for the campus English library, too.

The bright colors were really nice, but the images were so steroetypical for mythology. I like giving the children more alternative images and stories and also more opportunity to lead the children with their own imaginations.

This was one of my favorite books growing up. The spine is completely broken, and it's been taped and repaired to the point where in 50 years, if it was the last copy in existence, you might get 50 cents for it ($1 if you include inflation). It's got fabulous illustrations, and the myths aren't

prettied up for kids. It tells about how Zeus was a philanderer and Hera was trying to kill Heracles (ahem, Disney crap! Cough! Cough! Excuse me, I think I've got a frog in my throat...). Plus it gets all the Greek names right, and then tells you the Roman names. It's fantastic. A really good starter book for kids.

This book holds a special place in my heart. I discovered it in the library back when I was in middle school. I had the book constantly checked out. As soon as I got to the end I would start all over again. Everyone should have a book like that.

i should first admit that i am huge geek when it comes to greek mythology. i have loved it since i first discovered it back in the first grade. this book was later given to me as a gift and i've treasured it ever since.

i would recommend this book as a great starting point for not only children, but

people of all ages. the stories are told in an entertaining, easy-to-follow manner and the illustrations are gorgeous. my only complaint is that the illustrations do tend to skew toward the blond hair/blue eyes aesthetic.

This book has beautiful illustrations. The stories of the God's are well written, and give a great education to the reader. Ingri, and Edgar always do a great job showing the reader accurate history with awsome pictures.

I had this book as a textbook when I was twelve, and I can't count the number of times I re-read it. It may seem like a little thing, but the Greek Myths do turn up in all sorts of literature, and it can be very useful to get them into your head at a young age...

I've had this book since at least 1st grade, and out of all the myth books for kids that I read, this is the best. Sure, it's watered down somewhat (Greek myths are bawdy!), but it otherwise stays true to the myths. If you want to introduce your kids to Greek Mythology, this is the book to do it

with.

This book has a whole bunch of Greek Myths. I like this version because it has beautiful and pretty pictures. I like the way that some are colored in and some aren't. They look very lifelike. It includes pretty much all the Greek myths straight from the beginning and tells you the history of Greek

gods.

I remember a version of this anthology being around when I was a child- many, many moons ago. A wonderful overview of the many stories and personalities of the colorful dieties that graced the top of Mount Olympus and the lands below and beneath it. Perhaps a bit much for the very young, but a good

overview for the older kids. With beautiful pictures throughout, we are introduced to Hermes, Aphrodite and Mercury, and the exciting tales of Hercules as well as the woeful story of Daedulus and his overconfident son, Icarus. This is an excellent way to introduce a child to where those many new versions of the old myths came from.

This book is really helping me round out my knowledge of Greek myths. I never get tired of reading about Theseus & the Minotaur, or Perseus & Medusa, or the stories of Artemis or Dionysus. But there were so many stories that I was unfamiliar with too! I read about Bellerophon, who tamed Pegasus

with the help of Athena, and fought the Chimera, a fire-breathing beast. The book carries such wonderful details, like this: 'The Chimera hissed like a serpent, bleated like a goat, and as she opened wide her lion's jaws to roar, he thrust the lump of lead down her throat. Her flaming breath melted the lead and it trickled into her stomach and killed her.' I also loved the story of Melampus, Bellerophon's cousin, who was known for his kindness to animals. The story accounts that the animals 'licked his ears so clean that he could understand the language of all animals'. I loved the more sensitive stories, like that of Selene, who is the moon. This book just captures the sentiments so perfectly with its illustrations & descriptions. 'Slowly she drove her milk-white horses across the sky, and her pale moonbeams fell gently on the sleeping earth...'. One of my favorite illustrations is that of Pandora's page. The beautiful colored pencil drawings reveal the things that escaped from the box: drudgery, scheming, old age, distrust, lies, envy, accusation, despair, deceit, scolding, fibs, gossip...etc. I also love the colorful illustration of Aphrodite, being born out of the sea foam over a beautiful sunset.

This is a fabulous picture book with short stories about the Greek gods and goddesses. The short stories about the gods and goddesses make it easier to read and imagine what they were like. The details in the illustrations are magnificant they almost tell the story without the words. I have read

these myths before, but without pictures and they are not as inviting as this. I believe this book would be a great asset to all classrooms.

When I was a child, my mother would take me to the library while she did her shopping in town. I discovered and loved this book. It sparked my imagination. When I grew up, I discovered this edition again. It still makes me smile. Any child would benefit from this book.

I don't know how accurate the tales in this book are, but they're very fun to read. Whether you're studying for a class paper or just a fan of Greek Mythology, this book has something for everyone who enjoys they mysteries of long ago. I loved it.

This is a fantastic collection on Greek myths. It begins relatively chronologically. Subsequently the myths lead wonderfully into the next. The illustrations are enticing and relevant.
