Simple enough for any kid with the bare basic proficiency in reading :)

Or, you could read it aloud to a younger child, that works too.

My nieces (5 and 2.5) request this book often enough. I'm not sure what grabs them - the opposites, Fred's plain bad luck, the silly problem and solution at the end

- but they do like it a lot.

Big dog and little dogs are opposites in every way.

Fred and Ted are friends but opposite in every way. They go on a vacation together and encounter a problem that they must solve. Good book for learning about opposites and color because everything Fred likes is green and everything Ted likes is red.

This story was about a big dog named Fred and a small dog named Ted. Both of the dogs lived in the same house and Ted slept in the big bed and Fred slept in the small bed. The next day both asked each other if they got any sleep and they both said no. A bird flew by and told them that Fred needed

to sleep in the big bed and Ted needed to sleep in the small bed. This story teaches children to not make smaller problems into a big problem and try to solve the smaller problems first.

This would be a neat book to use to practice identifying opposites in Spanish. It is also bilingual, making it easy and fun to read alone.

Fred and Ted are best friends with a lot of differences but they don't let that get in the way.

This book would be good for teaching ELLs because it offers text in both English and Spanish. It helps students learn opposites.

A book about two mutts who are opposite in every way, but best friends nevertheless. This pre-school book is a great opportunity to present to the children that everyone is different in their own way but special.

This classic book from P.D. Eastman tells the story of Fred and Ted, two dogs that are friends but also polar opposites. The book illustrates (both literally and through the text) how the two differ in a variety of ways, both physically (i.e., the big and little referenced in the title) and through

personal choices. Things get especially hairy when they visit a hotel and the big dog ends up in a tiny bed while the little one sleeps in a super-large one.

I shared this book with my toddler class for a unit on dogs, and they absolutely loved it. They asked to hear it again on multiple occasions. Best of all, just by listening to this book they were absorbing information about the concept of opposites while learning that friends can enjoy different things/be different from one another yet still have fun together!
