around, Sadie tries to keep the snowman cold by keeping it in a tent and under her porch. She finally takes the last of the snowman and puts it in a bag in the freezer. When the next winter season comes, Sadie gets the bag out of the freezer and makes a snowman with it.

I really enjoyed reading this story. I thought it was really cute, and I like how she saved her snowman for the next winter.

In the classroom, the children could all draw their own snowmen with chalk on some black construction paper. Also, we can all sit down as a class and talk about our favorite seasons and why.

cotton balls.

This is a really good book, about building snowmen. It is a cute book especially for the winter.
Classroom Extension Idea: 1. The kids could get some ideas about how to build a snowman and what to use for the eyes, noses, and mouths. 2. They would probably do what Sadie would do keep building snowmen until they melted away.

Summary
It was winter and Sadie was making a snowman. She rolled three balls of snow, put them together, used cookies for the eyes, apple for the nose and banana for the smile. Animals came and ate the food off the snowman while sun came out and melted it. This made Sadie very sad, so she decided to
Show More
make another. She used crackers for the eyes, carrots for the nose and zucchini for the smile. Animals also ate the food off the snowman and she tried to cover the snowman with a blanket in order to protect it from being melted by the sun. It eventually melted. She made yet another snowman but this time she placed him in a ziploc bag until next winter came. She then took them out and made two snowmen. They lasted even longer this time and she was happy.

Personal Reaction
I liked the creativity that Sadie displayed in this story by using different types of food on the snowman. I was also impressed by the fact that Sadie seemed very smart in the way she not only developed strategies to protect the snowman but she persisted in trying different things until something actually worked. I thought that was amazing! The real pictures on each page brought such life to the story that I felt I was actually there. There was a scene where it was actually snowing and the animals looks so real and alive. I think kids would love those scenes. I think Sadie was a real smart and determined little girl.

Extensions
This story can be used to teach sequencing of a tasks or events in composition. Students can be asked to write how to make a snowman. For younger children students can be given the sequences on pieces of paper then they stick them together in order on a sheet of paper. Students can engage in making a snowman during the winter time.

Summary:

On a winter's day, Sadie builds a snowman using fresh winters snow, cookies for the eyes, an apple for the nose, and a banana for the smile. This snowman lasted a long time. Unfortunately, animals took away the food items and the snow melted. Sadie was sad to see the snowman go away. On

another snowy day, Sadie builds a snowman from the snow that was left over and the new snow on the ground. This time she used crackers for the eyes, a carrot for the nose, and a zucchini for the smile. This snowman lasted a long time as well. But again, the animals took away the food and the snow melted. This time, Sadie isn't so sad, because it will snow again. Each time it snowed, Sadie rebuilt the snowman and each time the weather warmed a bit, she watched him melt, but there was always enough snow left over, to build another one. As the days got longer and warmer, the last snowman began to melt. Sadie tried to protect him by building him a tent. But the wind blew hard and blew the tent away. As Spring came, Sadie did everything she could to keep her snowman from melting. She moved him under her porch, but he continued to melt. There was one last snowfall, and Sadie was able to make a smaller snowman, from what was left of the last one. He didn't last very long and melted completely away leaving only water behind. Sadie was sad again. But she had a great idea! She took the water and poured it into a plastic baggie. She put the baggie in the freezer, to save until the next winter. With that baggie in the freezer, Sadie enjoyed her Spring and Summer knowing that eventually it would snow again. When it did snow again, Sadie took the baggie out of the freezer and rolled to ball of ice in the snow. From there she made another snowman.

Personal Response:

I have always liked this book. I think it is a great circle of life concept by incorporating the seasons into it. I have always loved the nurturing concept of Sadie.

Classroom Extensions:

This is a great way to discuss snow. It can be used to teach the weather variations for snow to occur as well as the melting process.

The first snowfall is always so exciting. I would definitely read this just to get into the excitement and wonder of snow.

In researching this book, there were many great ideas on building your own snowman. I would have my students build their own. One of my favorite findings was using plastic water bottles and cotton balls inside the bottle, to make the snowmans body. It would last longer than doing it with paper plates, and I think looks like more fun.

Personal Reaction:
I like this book as currently there is quite a bit of snow and ice all over the place. I like the story I thought it was really cute my favorite part was that she froze what was left to start all over again the next winter.

Extension Ideas:
Teaching topics like Seasons, Winter Traditions in different cultures, possibly even determination as this little girl saved the last of her snowman to rebuild later.

would last a long time till the animals would come and take the food she used to make the snowman’s face. Then the snowman would melt away, then another snow storm came and she would build another snowman. This time she used crackers for his eyes, carrot for his nose, and a Zucchini for his smile. The snowman would last for a long time but the animals would come and take the food again. She had done this a couple of time till it became warm and the winter season was going away. So with the last one she made she kept the melted snow and placed it in the freezer till the next snow storm and she would build another snowman. Sadie just love winter when it snowed because she could build a snowman.

Personal reaction: The book has great colors and illustrations in it, and is part of what most kids and family’s like doing in the winter when it snows. A great way to show how there are so many ways to build a snowman using food, and materials to make their faces.

Classroom extensions:
1. There can be a time to build a snowman in the class with paper and cutout fruits and vegetables.
2. Look at different traditions, what they do during the winter when it snows. Have the students draw a picture of their winter time in the snow.
